Daniel Borel founded Logitech in Switzerland in 1981, together with two former colleagues from Stanford University, which he attended in 1976. Logitech is known for having commercialized the first computer mouse for the mass market at an affordable price in the 1980's. Today, Logitech is the leading group in computer devices in more than 100 countries with a turnover of $ 2, 4 billion USD and more than 9 500 employees worldwide.

Daniel Borel was selected as "Entrepreneur for the World 2008", specifically as a creator of wealth and social justice: his leadership and success at Logitech demonstrates his qualities as an entrepreneur, and his work on behalf of two foundations (SwissUp, dedicated to the improvement of the teaching system in Switzerland, and Defitech, which assists disabled children) demonstrates his commitment to share with society the wealth produced by his company.

In his speech, Daniel Borel underscored three essential strategies for success in the context of the current business climate, "the financial crisis we are facing right now is an amazing source of opportunities for those who are able to take them; innovation is the key for winning companies; it is mandatory to develop one's skills all life long, by investing into education and training."
