Three Categories Recognize Ongoing Commitment by Information Security Leaders in Asia-Pacific

HONG KONG, April 9 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- (ISC)2(R) ("ISC-squared"), the not-for-profit global leader in educating and certifying information security professionals throughout their careers, today announced the opening of nominations for its third annual Asia-Pacific Information Security Leadership Achievements (ISLA) Program. The ISLA Program, begun in 2007 as part of (ISC)2's global Awards Program, has recognized over 35 outstanding honorees in over 10 Asia-Pacific economies.

The ISLA recognizes the ongoing commitment by information security leaders in Asia-Pacific to build a highly qualified and ethical information security workforce. Professionals can be nominated in three distinct categories:

-- Senior Non-IT Security Professional (examples include: Chief

Information Officer, Chief Financial Officer, program/project manager,

etc.) who has significantly contributed to the enhancement of the IT

security workforce by demonstrating a leadership role in any IT

security workforce improvement initiative, program or project.

Candidates in this category typically should have at least ten years

of work experience and occupy a senior-level position within their

organization.

-- Senior IT Security Professional (examples include: Chief Security

Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, IT Security Manager or

senior security manager with significant IT security management

responsibilities) who has significantly contributed to the enhancement

of the IT security workforce by demonstrating a leadership role in any

IT security workforce improvement initiative, program or project.

Candidates in this category typically should have at least ten years

of work experience, seven of which are directly related to IT Security.

-- IT Security Practitioner who has distinguished him/herself for

implementing and/or managing the implementation of a component of a

security program (examples include: managing a security awareness and

training program, conducting difficult, complex security evaluations,

etc.). Candidates in this category typically should have at least six

years of work experience, three of which, should be directly related

to IT Security.

It is important for us to stand up and celebrate with these leaders in Asia-Pacific in honoring their achievement in information security."

Last year, at the ISLA ceremony, (ISC)2 recognized 15 honorees and four showcased distinguished workforce initiatives, led by honorees. They were:

-- Senior non-IT Security Professional Category: Jeong Sik Choi, CEO &

Publisher, INFOTHE Co., Ltd.. Mr. Choi was recognized for his vision

in pioneering Korean information security publications for the Korean

information security professional.

-- Senior IT Security Professional Category: Dr. Soojung Shin, Ph.D.,

Executive Vice President, Infosec Co., Ltd.. Dr. Shin was honored for

his leadership in deriving methodologies to combat new and emerging

security threats.

-- IT Security Practitioner Category: Frank Law, CISSP, BEng, MsC

(Internet Computing), Senior Inspector, Hong Kong Police Force. Mr.

Law was honored on his dedicated effort for the Police IT crime

training program that enables police officers to tackle technology

crime-related problems in Hong Kong and Asia-Pacific.

-- IT Security Practitioner Category: Wansuck Yi, Director, u-IT Service

Protection Team, Korea Information Security Agency (KISA). Mr Yi was

recognized for his perseverance in formulating and executing the

security training and education program at KISA.

A nominations review committee comprised of members from the AAB will review and select honorees from the three categories, based upon the selection criteria and eligibility requirements. The AAB includes volunteer, senior-level information security professionals responsible for counseling (ISC)2 on policies, trends and certification needs within the Asia-Pacific region. (ISC)2 officials will honor the ISLA honorees in July 2009 in conjunction with SecureAsia@KualaLumpur Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
