DONGGUAN, China, August 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The Love Dongguan Squad, a civil group founded by Fetion (instant messenger) users, has successfully brought their volunteer action to London in their mission to provide hope for rural China's "left-behind children". The term "left-behind children" refers to children who grow up in rural areas without contact with their parents - their parents having to migrate to urban centers in China in search of work. The children are raised by elderly relatives and rarely, if ever, see their parents.
Driven by compassion for these children, Fetion users organized to form the Love Dongguan Squad with the intent of bringing notoriety to this public welfare crisis and also to bring hope to the left-behind children of Dongguan, China. The volunteer action involved fulfilling the dreams of children hoping to see London during its inspiring summer sporting event. The portraits of these children were printed onto shirts that were then used to collect signatures and blessings from passers-by in London. The shirts were then presented to the children upon their return to China.
Dubbed "Taking Children's Eyes to London", the activity was successful in its intent to provide Dongguan's left-behind children with a pleasant memory and something tangible that lets them know they are cared for.
"Volunteers wanted to do something that lets these children know the public cares about them and acknowledges their hardship," said Xiao Jun, founder of Fetion's Public Welfare division. "The volunteers want to show that even children that are left behind can be happy because we care. Essentially, we want people to know we love these children and we love Dongguan."
The volunteers are also calling for more people to participate in this activity by using Chinese websites Fetion and 139mail, thereby bringing more public attention to these children.
