SHANGHAI, July 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Shennong: Taste of Illusion, the VR animation film produced by Pinta Studios and co-produced by Jaunt China, was one of thirty VR Immersive Stories to premier at the 75th Venice International Film Festival. The nine-minute VR animation film will compete against 18 other VR films and experiences in the Linear VR Immersive Stories Competition.

Successor to The Deserted, a live-action VR film co-produced Jaunt China and HTC and directed by Tsai Ming-Liang, Shennong: Taste of Illusion is the second VR film co-produced by Jaunt China to be selected by the Venice International Film Festival. As its co-producer, Jaunt China will be the exclusive global distributor of Shennong: Taste of Illusion.

Co-directed by Mi Li and Wang Zheng, Shennong: Taste of Illusion re-tells the tale of Shennong LieShan, the mythical Chinese god-king of herbal medicine and agriculture, who accidentally embarked on a hallucinatory and spiritual journey while tasting and collecting unknown herbs and plants deep in the forest. Pinta Studios is an accomplished VR animation studio in China; their previous VR animation film, The Dream Collector, was also selected by the 74th Venice International Film Festival as an Official VR Selection.

We will stay true and continue to produce more premium content." As the director of Shennong: Taste of Illusion and The Dream Collector, Mi Li remarked "It's the second time that Pinta Studios' VR work has been selected by the Venice Film Festival. We are more confident of our team than ever before, as we strive for consistency in excellence."

"We are excited to work with Pinta Studios to continue our exploration of VR storytelling," said James Fong, CEO of Jaunt China. "The story of Shennong: Taste of Illusion is based on one of the most ancient mythologies in China. Being nominated by the Jury of Venice International Film Festival is an acknowledgement that great story knows no national borders or cultural boundaries. We look forward to working with Pinta Studios to deliver amazing immersive storytelling and bring them to the global audience."
