VAASA, Finland, April 11, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Mervento Ltd, a Finland based wind turbine manufacturer is launching the next generation direct driven wind turbine at EWEA 2012 Annual Event in Copenhagen, April 16-19. The design driver for MERVENTO 3.6-118 wind turbine has been the financial performance of the turbine owner's investment. High energy yield and low O&M costs lead to lowest cost of energy produced and thus high profitability for turbine investment.

The output power of MERVENTO 3.6-118 is 3.6 MW, and it is designed for IEC class IIA with extended temperature range from -30 Celsius to 40 Celsius. The turbine is based on a large 118 meter rotor with 125 meter hub height. The power train consists of gearless medium voltage permanent magnet generator and full power converter. MERVENTO 3.6-118 is compatible with all grid codes.

The new wind turbine introduces 20 new technologies and solutions never seen in wind turbines before. "Hydraulic actuating systems are used for yaw, pitch and rotor brake because they perform better and are more reliable in large turbines and harsh conditions than conventional electro-mechanical systems," explains Patrik Holm, CEO of Mervento Ltd. "Mervento has chosen to cut back the cost of energy by investing in a product that has maximized energy yield combined with lowest O&M costs over the complete life cycle," Patrik continues. "Lowering the cost of energy is the fundamental issue for the future of wind power," he adds. "This is what the industry has been waiting for."

Mervento erected and commissioned the first pilot wind turbine in the beginning of 2012 close to the city of Vaasa on west coast of Finland. The pilot wind turbine has produced electricity to the local grid since beginning of March 2012, and the monitored performance has exceeded the expectations.

The MERVENTO 3.6-118 wind turbine type is in the process of being certified to conform to the requirements in the IEC 61400 standards and complementing DNV guidelines.

Besides in various flexible delivery configurations, MERVENTO 3.6-118 wind turbine is also available through Mervento Manufacturing License program. "Mervento Manufacturing License is far more than a traditional blueprint technology transfer," Patrik tells. "It is a comprehensive business transfer that enables a very fast and well-supported production ramp up and market deployment for the licensee. The high amount of in-house IPR gives the licensee a great premise for maximized own added value," Patrik concludes.
