KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Nov. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- NEL has appointed Gilbert Tonner as Regional Manager as it launches its flow consultancy business in the Asia Pacific region. With inaccurate flow metering estimated to cost the industry billions of dollars per year worldwide, stakeholders are demanding greater accountability from oil and gas operators in the region.

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the new manufacturer-independent business will offer a range of unbiased training, testing and calibration support to oil & gas operators in Asia Pacific. This follows PETRONAS, the national oil company of Malaysia, awarding NEL a licence to operate.

Tonner has more than 40 years' experience in flow measurement, sampling and analysis in the oil and gas industry and will develop local resources to support NEL's expansion across Asia Pacific. He joins NEL after 21 years as Managing Director of Kelton Engineering, a provider of flow consultancy and software.

Dr Phil Mark, Director of Sales & Marketing at NEL, said: "NEL is recognised by the global oil industry as a centre of excellence for flow measurement services. Establishing a representative office in the centre of Kuala Lumpur will give operators in the region access to NEL's world-class expertise, which is based on sixty years' of independent research and testing.

"Gilbert's wealth of experience, combined with the award of the PETRONAS licence, will help us to deliver a high-level service to a region that is under supported in the financially critical area of flow measurement. It is also a major step forward in the growth of NEL's global flow measurement business and demonstrates our commitment to the region."

NEL's new Asia Pacific Flow Consultancy will offer a range of services, including system audits, system analysis using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), meter calibration, and training.
