NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cities for Tomorrow Conference will convene government leaders, NGOs, think tanks, and the private sector representatives for a high-level discussion about urban development in New Orleans this week on December 6-7. A delegation from Xi'an China, led by Mr. Li Dong, Dean of the Xi'an Tongji Regional Planning Institute, will be the only representatives from China to attend the invite-only conference.

Mr. Li Dong, an urban planning expert from Xi'an, will address the conference, sharing his experiences and insights from Xi'an's development with the audience. Xi'an is known around the world for its famed Terracotta Warriors and brilliant cultural legacy from the Han and Tang dynasties over 1,000 years ago, but today the city is quickly transforming into a modern metropolis of more than twelve million people.

Mr. Li will introduce Xi'an's approach to historical preservation, outline the city's ambitious talent recruitment strategy, and share how Xi'an's Low Impact Development (L.I.D.) model makes it a leader in sustainability as a prospective first tier city and one of China's key metropolitan areas.

Speaking about the upcoming conference, Mr. Li noted, "I am honored to participate in this conference. It is so important to increase engagement with the world, deepen cooperation and make new friends. Through these discussions we can improve our cities and create better lives for urban residents all over the world."

The Cities for Tomorrow Conference is put on by the New York Times along with the NOLA Media Group to assess key challenges facing cities today and define the winning formulas that lead to flourishing urban centers.
