Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair to Enthrall with Rich Artistry of Both Famed and Upcoming Jewellery Designers

Drenched in glitter, adorned with sparkle and clothed in beauty, the widest array of ravishing fine jewellery set to meet diverse interests

SINGAPORE, Sept. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Riding on the success of its first fair, the Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair is set to radiate the halls of the Sands Expo and Convention Centre once again, from 23 to 26 October 2014.

The biggest and most significant fine jewellery marketplace in Singapore and the region, the fair will present over 200 exhibitors and occupy more than 10,000 square metres of exhibition space. The main fair comprises country pavilions featuring a wide assortment of fine jewellery as well as loose gems, diamonds and pearls, from acclaimed jewellers from Belgium, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Thailand, USA and the world over.

Marked at irresistibly attractive prices ranging from hundreds to millions of dollars, the massive jewellery collection under one roof promises a piece of treasure for everyone,  whether one is a business trader, private collector, jewellery connoisseur or deal hunter. To appreciate visitors for their support, UBM, the organiser, will also hold daily lucky draws with up to SGD$10,000 worth of cash vouchers to be won.

Additionally, not only will visitors be able to purchase jewellery pieces at great prices that start from SGD$120, they will also be in for a visually shimmery treat at the fair, which will also showcase opulent, exclusive and rare jewellery pieces with distinctive characteristics.

The largest marquee at the fair, the Exquisite Pavilion will glamourise the halls, housing some esteemed international brands in jewellery and gemstones, such as L.J. West Diamonds, Massimo Raiteri, Uchihara and Windsor Jewelers. Set amidst the lush and prestigious settings, the Exquisite Pavilion is renowned for phenomenal and ethereal jewellery pieces, exceptional timepieces and other dazzling collectibles.

One such stunning masterpiece at the Exquisite Pavilions, available for purchase at SGD$3,125,000, is the Kimberley Red Diamond Ring (right) by Glajz-Thg, a company based in Singapore, which features a rare purplish red diamond, accented by white and pink diamond, and set in platinum and 18k white gold.

The fair will also bring the finest of vintage jewellery at one venue, by showcasing the most mesmerising and extraordinary treasures that only time can create. From private collections to estate fine jewellery, these unique antique masterpieces handcrafted from platinum, gold, and silver and accentuated with diamonds and precious stones all have glorious heritage and history to their names.

Singapore's first dedicated vintage jewels and objects retailer, Revival Vintage Jewels & Objects, will be showcasing a pair of diamond and sapphire "Gloxinia" ear clips by Van Cleef & Arpels, circa 1950. Borne out of an intense love for beautifully handcrafted antique and vintage jewellery and artefacts, and a deep appreciation for history and heritage, they have curated and amassed an extraordinary collection of rare and timeless pieces, scarcely seen in South East Asia.

Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair Design Awards

On the opening day (Thursday, 23 October 2014), the Singapore Jewellery Design Award (SJDA) will also be presented at the fair, to recognise young jewellery designers for their talent, to provide a public platform for them to display their designs and skills and to open up pathways to the jewellery retail market.

Themed "The Most Important Day of Life", the competition required design students to create a piece of jewellery for the most important day of his or her life in three different periods - the past, the present and the future.

The winners are:

  • Cat A (Past) -- Winner: Ms Anastasia Antonovich, Russia, Moscow State University of Design and Technology
  • Cat B (Present) -- Winner: Mr Kevin Koh, Singapore, Nanyang Polytechnic
  • Cat C (Future) -- Winner: Ms Carla Hesita, Philippines, University of The Philippines Diliman

*Refer to Appendix for the winning designs.

In support of young, new talent in the jewellery industry, the Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair committee, in partnership with local design schools including Raffles Design Institute, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and Jewellery Design and Management International School, will also provide an opportunity for these students to showcase their jewellery creations at the fair.

Those interested in pursuing a future in jewellery design can attend several introductory three-hour workshops to gain insight into the diploma programmes offered by Gemological Institute of America (GIA), The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT), and Jewellery Design and Management International School (JDMIS). The workshops will cover topics like Diamonds Quality Grading, Ruby and Sapphire Quality Grading, and Fine Jewellery Design.

"Talent is important to the sustenance of the jewellery industry, and we are committed to providing young and aspiring designers with avenues that will allow them to realise their potential. Young designers play an important role in bringing the industry to the next level by contributing fresh perspectives to jewellery design, expanding the use of materials, developing creative techniques and pushing the boundaries of creativity," said Paul Wan, Managing Director, UBM Media (Singapore) Pte Ltd.
