Origami Art Installation by Belgian Artist Charles Kaisin Unveiling the Year of the Goat at PMQ, Hong Kong

HONG KONG, Feb. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Over ten-thousand golden origami horses are trotting to PMQ in Central, Hong Kong to pass the time to the Year of the Goat! Created by the renowned Belgian artist Charles Kaisin, the giant origami installation entitled "HYPHEN", was made of 13,500 glittering origami horses which will be hung at the Courtyard of PMQ, Hong Kong. "PMQ GOat ARTventure" exhibition runs from 10 February to 31March 2015 to celebrate the Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year with the spectacular hanging installation. Kaisin custom-designs an 11-metre high goat-shaped art piece made of 13,500 golden origami horses exquisitely hung by red ribbons. Hand-folded with thousands of sheets of reflective golden foil, the shiny golden horses symbolize fortune and perfection in the perspective of the Chinese, while the red ribbons as the hanging tools represent happiness and prosperity in the Chinese culture.

"HYPHEN implies a link between all memories of the past year and all the beautiful moments to come. It is also a symbol of union made of any suspended network in the image of the frame of human relationships. The connection of red and gold not only represents the prosperity and happiness but also a harmonious assembly of human beings in the universe. This is what hyphen, which means under and one, conveys in ancient Greek," explained Charles Kaisin. Belgian architect and designer Charles Kaisin is an avant-garde in creating sustainable and contemporary design with recycled materials. He has been commissioned to create products by prestigious brands as Swatch, Delvaux, Hermes, Pierre Marcolini, and has worked as Art Director for Val Saint Lambert and Project Manager for Hermann Miller. He is a Guest Lecturer at the Hong Kong Design Institute, and the Institut Superieur d'Architecture Saint-Luc. 

Another artwork not to be missed is "Adventure of Scottie the goat" by the local multimedia artist Avollusion x Laundromattee (AxO). In celebration of the Lunar New Year in PMQ, the Year of the Goat by sharing with all art aficionados the new media technology "Projection Mapping", adding an uber-modern innovative touch to the classic oriental festive colour. AxO  tells the audience a creative story of an adventurous journey of a lonesome goat called Scottie..

Traditional Chinese handicrafts are something indispensable for the Lunar New Year celebration. Masters of paper art, sugar art and flour sculpture are invited to showcase their fine craftsmanship at PMQ.

For celebration of the Valentine's Day and the Lantern Festival a.k.a the Chinese Valentine's Day, a romantic luminous flower-bed made of LED lights will be set up to project a romantic and loving atmosphere at PMQ by Avollusion. For the singles, come and join the speed dating dinner at the PMQ Night Market and it could be the chance to meet your destined one.

A wide array of fascinating events and activities had been held in PMQ since its opening in April 2014.
