Kaufmann brings more than 40 years of logistics experience to his new appointment, with an impressive record in improving productivity and service innovation throughout the Asia Pacific region. Before being appointed the CEO of North Asia and Head of Value Added Services for Asia Pacific, Kaufmann spent 15 years in Japan where he held senior management positions for Japan and Korea. With years of experience in all modes of freight transportation, Kaufmann played an important role in developing the multimodal services between Asia and Europe for DHL in line with China's 'Belt and Road' initiative.

"Few logistics leaders can claim such a wealth of experience in all areas of forwarding and trade facilitation as Charles, particularly when it comes to enhancing customers' reach and efficiency with value added services," said Kelvin Leung, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding Asia Pacific. "Charles' appointment will see us take an even more integrated approach to the North Asian region, one which will offer our customers a range of strategic benefits as initiatives like the 'Belt and Road' open up new opportunities for our customers. Having spent a significant proportion of his illustrious career in Japan, I'm confident that Charles will achieve sustainable growth for our business in Japan in the years ahead."

"As the second-largest trade partner of both China and the European Union[1], Japan stands to benefit significantly from the higher volume and velocity of trade that initiatives like the 'Belt and Road' promise to generate," said Charles Kaufmann, Managing Director of Japan, CEO of North Asia and Value Added Services, Asia Pacific, DHL Global Forwarding. "Buoyed by a steady revival in Japanese exports[2], we hope to unlock greater overseas opportunities for our Japanese customers by further streamlining customs and forwarding procedures."

After taking the helm of Value Added Services - a portfolio including customs brokerage, integrated warehousing and logistics security - in 2012, Kaufmann led efforts to further customize solutions across all logistics modes and customer industries in Asia Pacific, with plans to apply the same focus on tailored solutions in Japan.

"With my expanded portfolio, I look forward to applying insights and innovations from the rest of the region to sustain our customers' growth trajectory in the years to come," Charles added.
