ACCA launches inaugural film festival focused on business ethics

Organised by ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Singapore and the Singapore Film Society, ACCA Ethics Film Festival 2017 is Singapore's first ever film festival that spotlights business ethics. The film festival hopes that finance professionals will find their "ethical compass" through these activities.  It also marks the beginning of a month-long of related activities around the topic. Some of these activities include, supplementary CPD seminars on ethical business practices.

Mr Reuter Chua, Head of Singapore, ACCA, says, "The use of films is an excellent way to kick start meaningful discussions on a serious topic such as ethics. This film festival will also be the start of our 'ethics month' with the launch of our ground breaking module on ethics and the release of our report 'Ethics & Trust in the Digital Age' on the challenges of technology on accounting standards and ethics."

"Singapore Film Society is proud to collaborate with ACCA Singapore to organise the inaugural Ethics Film Festival in Singapore. Film has always been a powerful medium across any industries to communicate important messages to audiences, and also to encourage discussions. This is especially applicable in Singapore, where we have one of the highest movie-going rate per capita in the world. Being a trained accounting student myself, I'm glad to be part of a project that combines the two fields that are very close to my heart", says Sherman Ho, Singapore Film Society.

In line with the topic of ethics, ACCA will also be introducing the enhanced Ethics & Professional Skills module that will combine real-world situations into classrooms. Based on feedback from employers, students will be introduced to complex conditions and simulations that reflect the changing world outside their classroom. They will get an opportunity to integrate technology with their accounting skills and how to apply these in real-world situations.

The current Professional Ethics module will be available until 30 October 2017 and replaced by the enhanced Ethics and Professional Skills module on 31 October 2017.

The movies screened in this festival are:

Unraveled (7.00pm, 6 Oct);
Inside Job (7.00pm, 12 Oct);
Insider (7.00pm;13 Oct),
Wizard of Lies (7.00pm; 20 Oct).

Tickets for the screening can be obtained from www.ethicsfilmfestival.com
