Last week, leaders of nearly 300 foreign political parties and other political organizations from more than 120 countries came to Beijing to attend the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-level Meeting. They spent three days sharing ideas on the theme of "Working Together Towards a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity and a Better World: Responsibilities of Political Parties."
Foreign parties have been looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of how the CPC, with over 89 million members, governs China and maintains its vitality over decades of rule. Particularly, they want to know what changes were likely to occur and what could remain unchanged with the CPC, when China entered a new era after the 19th CPC National Congress. In this context, the first high-level meeting attended by the largest number of political party leaders was held to present the CPC to the world, making breakthroughs in the history of the relationship among world political parties.
"Managing our own affairs well is China's biggest contribution to building a community with a shared future for humanity," Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of CPC Central Committee, observed in his keynote speech at the meeting's opening ceremony. The development of China, a country with one-fifth of the world population, delivers benefit to both itself and the world. As the ruling party in a country with 1.3 billion people, the CPC assumes heavy responsibilities. Under its leadership, China has achieved remarkable progress, especially in the past five years. The country has deepened reforms, conducted economic restructuring, and maintained medium-to-high speed growth. In addition, it has made a significant contribution to world poverty alleviation by lifting over 13 million of its people out of poverty on average each year. Therefore, the CPC is defined as being practical, confident and responsible.
At the meeting, the CPC explained the reasons for its success. Is that an attempt to "export" the Chinese model? Definitely not. The CPC sincerely shared lessons and experiences it has gained with its foreign counterparts, hoping to pursue better joint solutions through equality-based dialogue. Chinese approaches are just "public goods" available for all countries in the world.
Nowadays, the peoples of different countries are increasingly connected with each other. All humanity aspires to live in a safe, prosperous, open and beautiful world. Realizing this aspiration requires joint efforts of all governments and political parties. Therefore, the CPC suggested that the high-level meeting be institutionalized and developed into a dialogue platform for world political parties to increase communications and exchanges for enhanced strategic trust and the development of a shared future.
