KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Oct. 16, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- This year's annual event is themed "Unlearn | Relearn". The organizers hoped that both the speakers and the audience will be able to equip themselves with brand-new knowledge and help them in achieving self-enrichment.
TEDxPetalingStreet has invited a total of 18 elite speakers from Malaysia, Singapore, and all the way from Taiwan. In hoping that apart from learning what is happening locally, the audiences could also explore ideas that are being disseminated overseas and to gain enlightenment from the speakers. This year's lineup includes: community pharmacist, Sam Wong; music director of U-Theatre, Huang Chih-chun; co-founder & CEO of SmartPeep, Dr Lim Meng Hui; 3-time winner of the Hua Zong literary reportage award, Hoo Joo Chuan; Special Officer (Youth Development) of the Office of Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Zoel Ng; member of the APEC SME Business Presidium Forum, Neil Foo Seck Chyn; leader of Langur Project Penang (LPP), Jo Leen Yap; founder of ProjectEd, Nelson Ng Jia Jun; café curator and cyclist-explorer, Choong Zi En; Shanghai-based fashion stylist, Allien Gan; managing director of Spring Pool Glass and founder of W Glass Project Taiwan, T.A. Earlier in June, TEDxPetalingStreet has also organized an "Open Mic" session where youth below 30 years old were given an opportunity to share their thoughts for 6 minutes. Among the contestants, ProjectEd's founder, Nelson Ng Jia Jun and café curator, Choong Zi En's stories caught the judges' attention, thus earning them their spot as two of the speakers for TEDxPetalingStreet 2019.
Unlearn | Relearn's main visual concept is based on the word 'Learn' in the traditional Mandarin character. The design team conceived the word 'Learn' into different dynamic visual configurations to best express the meaning of "Learn". Learning is not the mere absorption of what was seen and heard, but also to contemplate, adjust and respond. Therefore, the traditional Mandarin character of "Learn" becomes the focus and inspired the layout of the overall event. The word "Learn" can be seen on display everywhere in the event hall.
Representatives from TEDxBangsar, TEDxJonkerStreet, TEDxHeriotWattUMalaysia and other curatorial teams were also invited to be part of the audience this year, signalling the growth of more TEDx events in Malaysia.
