The Best of Australia's Fine Food Showcased in Hong Kong

HONG KONG, Aug. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Today, Australia's 190-year-old Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) marked a historic first, showcasing "best of the best" fine foods in Hong Kong. Exhibiting at the Hong Kong Food Expo, the RAS is undertaking its first foreign Expo trade mission in its history.

Fine foods which have been highly-awarded in the RAS' "Sydney Royal" competitions are being sampled by expert chefs and traders at the Expo through August 20th. "Having my macadamia nut products showcased at the Expo is my peak experience," said Jelbonleigh Estate managing director Donna Burton. As for all producers on display at the RAS' Hong Kong exhibit, the Byron Bay producer was a Sydney Royal medal winner.

"The range of products on display at the Expo will include olive oils, dairy products, bakery products, sauces and nuts. Their outstanding medal-winning credentials highlight excellence in quality, and we're confident the products will be well-received in China and Hong Kong," said RAS CEO Michael Kenny. RAS director of trade and development George Davey said, "Australia has an enviable reputation as one of the world's leading producers of high quality, clean and safe food. The products we're showcasing in Hong Kong this week are testament to that."

Headquartered in Sydney, the non-profit RAS was established in 1822, and received its Royal charter from Queen Victoria in 1891. The RAS has been an influential force in Australian agriculture for almost two centuries.

The products on display have been judged as exceptional by Australia's leading food experts at the "Sydney Royal" fine food, dairy and wine competitions, and have enviable reputations in Australian food trade and consumer markets. The Sydney Royal competitions are internationally known for their rigour and integrity. Australians recognise Sydney Royal medals as the mark of excellence and the foods that win them as the 'best of the best'.

The RAS' Sydney Royal organisation is also host of the largest annual event in the southern hemisphere, the Sydney Royal Easter Show, which has been 'bringing the country to the city' for over a century.
