Halal Ingredients Asia 2015 represents the region's best gathering and market place for Halal ingredient professionals and industry players in providing thought leadership to further accelerate and enhance the development of the Halal industry. The two-day event will focus on three key components to give a whole new perspective and opportunities through a conference, exhibition and B2B networking.

Speaking at the pre-launch to announce the upcoming event, Deputy Minister I of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) Datuk Ir Haji Hamim Samuri said, "For the first half of 2014, exports of Halal Products recorded from certified companies was RM18.8 billion, of which Halal ingredients was RM6 billion.

"Halal ingredients should be a focus area for research and development (R&D) to cater to a growing demand for the production of Halal end products, said the Deputy Minister."

Halal ingredients refer to Halal compliant raw materials or commodities, substances or component in the form of finished and semi-finished products, made from permissible sources, and through manufacturing processes forms essential part or whole of finished consumer goods for example emulsifiers, flavourings, colourings, anti-caking agents, etc.

"Malaysia has a large resource of palm oil, where palm oil-based ingredient could be processed to ensure Halal end products."

The Halal market is estimated at approximately USD30 billion annually. Hence, food emulsifiers, flavourings and enzymes are required in huge amounts by the Halal manufacturing sectors.

"However, Halal ingredient companies are facing numerous issues and challenges particularly in relation to R&D to produce premium Halal ingredients. Compounding this is the limited raw material supplies to produce Halal ingredients," said Datuk Ir Haji Hamim.

"It is a new area of growth which presents opportunities for SMEs in Malaysia to explore. Halal ingredients support the food & beverage, the cosmetic and personal care industries. There is potential for the manufacturers, distributors, and retailers as the demand for Syariah compliant products continue to grow."

"UBM Asia is proud to announce the collaboration with HDC to host Halal Ingredients Asia in Kuala Lumpur. I am also thrilled that HaIal Ingredients Asia is the first global event to focus on halal ingredients which will support and boost the halal sector in this region. HalaI Ingredients Asia will feature leading ingredients manufacturers, regulators, certification agencies, regional and local manufacturers, and solution providers to discuss key updates and shape the business of halal food and personal care in Asia."

"With our global reach to food and beverage and personal care professionals under our Food Ingredients (FI) and Beauty brands, we are confident that HalaI Ingredients Asia will be the platform to showcase technological advancements, deliver industry insights and standards and together, realise the vision of Malaysia as a competitive halal hub globally," said Mr. M. Gandhi, Managing Director, UBM ASEAN.

This underscores the importance for staging Halal Ingredients Asia 2015, particularly in enhancing the opportunities for trade and investments as well as for local Halal Ingredient players to be exposed to international buyers. Manufacturers, distributors and suppliers participating at the two-day event will discover a wealth of opportunity and many other offerings.

Among the topics to be discussed during the conference includes standards, certification, innovation, sourcing and procurement, and supply chain of raw and value added ingredients. The target audience for the conference will be the industry players, professionals from research institutions, universities, as well as representatives from food and beverage, cosmetics, nutraceuticals and personal care industries.

The exhibition will showcase a myriad of Halal-compliant ingredients and raw materials such as colourings, additives and oleo chemical based produce.

Business to Business ("B2B") networking sessions will also be organized for delegates and participants to create new business relationships and further expand existing businesses.
