"This year marks an important and significant anniversary of Alumni relations between Malaysia and the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, London, given that it is the 60th anniversary of Merdeka," says Ariff Rozhan, who is the Organizing Committee Chairman & Treasurer of MITAA.

"To commemorate this important year and with the blessing of the Istana Besar Seri Menanti, Negeri Sembilan, the Malaysia Inner Temple Alumni Association has planned a series of events revolving around His Majesty Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman ibni Almarhum Tuanku Muhammad, the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaya."

"Many Malaysians are unaware that the first King of Malaya, His Majesty Tuanku Abdul Rahman and his Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, both studied law at the Inner Temple in London, England. Their story is all the more important because they were in positions of leadership at a critical time during Malaya's period of transition from a British colony to an independent nation.

"As Malaysia continues on its journey of nationhood, there are some stories that need to be told and MITAA feels that the story of our first King is one of them, especially for the younger generation who wish to learn and understand more about how this nation was formed, and how our leaders and founding fathers, who were legally and professionally qualified, spearheaded this nation towards an exciting future, full of hope and ambition. "

The series of programs planned by MITAA will centre on a documentary which will, amongst others, examine the role of His Majesty Almarhum Tuanku Abdul Rahman as the first King of Malaya and offer an insight into how his time at the Inner Temple studying law helped prepare him for this important role, and the challenges of becoming the first Head of State of a newly independent nation.

It is MITAA's aim for this documentary to be broadcasted not only in Malaysia but also internationally.

Further activities planned by MITAA include a lecture at the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration, an essay competition on Rule of Law for law students, an annual dinner on the August 25, 2017 and an official dinner at the Inner Temple in London on November 4, 2017 to commemorate the hanging of the portrait. Extensive social media engagements, press conferences and other exposures for the above events are also planned.

"Of Wig and Robe" is produced under the auspices of the Yang Amat Mulia Tunku Ali Redhauddin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, the Tunku Besar of Seri Menanti as Royal Patron and has the support of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in London, England.
