Inaugural wins for 'Best Employer' award in Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea

SINGAPORE, May 23 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- DHL, the world's leading logistics company, has been named 'Best Employer' in Asia Pacific for its Express division by Aon Hewitt, a global leader in human resource consulting and outsourcing solutions. Additionally, DHL Express received the 'Best Employer' award in Thailand and Indonesia for the first time, joining DHL Express South Korea who received the same award earlier this year.

The awards are part of the Aon Hewitt Best Employers 2.0 -- Asia 2013 Study, which measures employers' effectiveness in creating a workplace environment that engages employees and enables them to deliver real competitive advantage through their employees. DHL was presented with both the 'Best Employer in Asia Pacific' and the 'Best Employer' awards in Thailand at a ceremony held at Bangkok's Westin Grande Sukhumvit Hotel yesterday.

Mr. Jerry Hsu, CEO of DHL Express Asia Pacific, said, "DHL is honored to have won these awards for the Asia Pacific region with additional awards for our local market operations. With over 34,000 staff in the region, we strongly believe that people are our key asset. Our success depends on our ability to harness the talents, skills and commitment of our people. At DHL, we are strongly committed to providing first-class working conditions and career prospects to our people. This keeps them motivated and inspired to deliver outstanding services to our valued customers at all times."

Over the years, DHL has invested significantly in a number of employee enriching practices and programs including the Certified International Specialist (CIS) program. CIS is an award-winning program which has been instrumental in instituting a cultural transformation within DHL Express and reinforcing the company's international market leadership. In 2010, with the aim of improving its financial position and building on its market leadership within Asia Pacific, Europe and Emerging Markets, the company announced a strategic focus on the core competence of international express delivery. In order to reinforce its international focus throughout the organization and deliver against the Employer of Choice aspiration, DHL Express launched the CIS program globally in July 2010.

The program employs innovative learning methodologies to train employees across all functions on the fundamentals of international shipping and enhancing their knowledge of essential aspects. To date, the CIS program has been delivered to over 100,000 employees in more than 220 countries and territories worldwide, making it one of the largest corporate training programs ever implemented. The materials have been translated into 42 languages.

"Winning the Best Employer Awards is a significant endorsement for us and we are very proud of our countries that have led the way for us: South Korea, Indonesia and Thailand. One of our targets in our 2015 Strategy is to be an 'Employer of Choice' - which is fundamental to attracting and keeping the best talent right across the region. To make this happen, we have made a big investment in our Certified International Specialist and Certified International Manager training programs. These are great programs that directly promote our strategy of creating motivated employees, who deliver great quality service to our customers," said Jeremy Caird, Vice President of Human Resources, DHL Express Asia Pacific.

Prior to these 'Best Employer Award' wins, DHL Express has already received a number of prestigious awards in 2013 in employer best practices across Asia Pacific. Key achievements include 'Best Companies to Work For®' award for DHL Express Japan and the 'Zhaopin.com Best Employer' award in China, run in conjunction with Peking University.
