Cabot Inaugurates Tianjin Masterbatch Plant in TEDA

TIANJIN, China, September 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- On September 19, Cabot held an opening ceremony for its Tianjin masterbatch plant in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA), with the attendance of Zhang Jun, vice director of TEDA (Nangang Industrial Zone) Administrative Commission, and Sean Keohane, Cabot's global vice president, general manger of Performance Products and president for the Asia-Pacific region.

Zhang Jun stated, "As a global leader in specialty performance carbon black materials, Cabot has achieved excellent results since its entry into TEDA in 2005, thanks to its leading-edge technology, efficient management and advanced concept, making a major contribution to the economic development of TEDA. As the world's largest black masterbatch manufacturing facility, the new plant inaugurated by Cabot will not only drive the company towards greater progress, but also further enhance the overall strength of the chemical industry in TEDA. Cabot Performance Products (Tianjin) Co., Ltd was founded on June 17, 2005, and has established the first and real specialty carbon black production line in China with an annual production capacity of 20,000 tonnes. Its products were used in a variety of areas including automobiles, household appliances, wires and cables as well as pipes, filling in the domestic blank. In order to better support customers in China and the Asia Pacific region, Cabot invested around US$20 million in 2010 to build a high-performance black masterbatch plant with an annual capacity of 45,000 tonnes. The plant, covering an area of 28,000 square meters, is the largest black masterbatch production facility in the world. It has been using the latest technologies to ensure the quality of masterbatch. The new masterbatch plant is the world's first highly-integrated production facility combining carbon black supply, masterbatch processing and energy recycling by taking advantage of the resources of Cabot's Tianjin carbon black base.
