The winning works will be part of the Eco-Art China exhibition opening today, featuring 206 works from 22 countries, ranging in age from 5-70. The free exhibition is open to the public from 10 am to 10 pm daily on all levels of Plaza 889, 889 Wan Hang Du Road until August 29. The exhibition includes selected contest entries and professional artists, where 62% of the local entries were made by children under age 14.

On hand to present the first prize was Jiang Nan, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee from Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau and Micky Fung, Executive Chairman and Founder of Touchmedia. One of the most dedicated participants, Yang Yan, having won second prize four years in a row, commented, "Environmental protection depends on the efforts of everyone, since we all live on the same planet. Destroying the environment means we are destroying our lives.  Trying harder to use recyclable products, use fewer natural resources, and create a life that is sustainable should be everyone's goal."

Touchmedia's research indicated that taxi passengers support environmental protection and would change their behaviors to do so. Micky Fung reiterated the importance of individual efforts, "Eco-Art China 2012 has reached over 50 million passengers, reminding them to sort into wet or dry garbage to facilitate recycling efforts. The garbage sorting game has been played 5.5 million times this year, so we hope the knowledge gained from the sorting game will translate into people's real-life daily habits."

This year's campaign has heavily promoted the simple act of pre-sorting dry and wet garbage so that it can be more efficiently processed at the garbage collection centers. A Tetra Pak commissioned ad featuring Zhou Xun and Chen Kun aired during the campaign period to highlight the importance of flattening carton packages and sorting them when discarding, to reduce landfill volumes. The interactive Eco-Art China ads have reinforced how the simple twist of an Ice Dew water bottle can save more than 70% recycling space and how Tetra Pak cartons, which are 100% recyclable, can be reused for a number of handy household decorations and post-consumer products.

Since its creation in 2009, Eco-Art China has driven awareness, participation and information about environmental protection for passengers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hangzhou. In a short four years, the campaign has reached over 270 million via Touchmedia's in-taxi screens, and attracted artists from a total of 28 countries. Besides learning about environmental protection, passengers have used Touchmedia screens to can learn about garbage sorting, join the contest, vote for the top work, and tour the exhibition virtually.
