Metlife Appoints Lennard Yong as Hong Kong's Chief

HONG KONG, Jan. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MetLife announced that Mr. Lennard Yong has joined MetLife in Hong Kong today and will become the Chief Executive Officer subject to regulatory approval. Joining the Asia Leadership team of MetLife, Mr. Yong will directly report to Dr. Nirmala Menon, Senior Vice President & Head of Designated Markets and Health, Asia.

In this role, Mr. Yong will be responsible for executing the corporate strategy to achieve profitable growth through diversification as well as ensuring the operational effectiveness of MetLife's Hong Kong business.

Mr. Yong joins MetLife from FWD (formerly ING) as Group Chief Commercial Officer, which he joined in 1999 in Australia, and over the years he has steadily risen through the ranks, culminating as CEO of ING Hong Kong and Macau.  In this position, he was responsible for all of ING's businesses in Hong Kong and Macau, overseeing all of the day-to-day business functions.  Before that he was Co-CEO of ING Hong Kong and Macau and has also served as its CFO.  Mr. Yong has worked and lived in Hong Kong since 2005; through these roles, he has acquired great local knowledge of the insurance industry.
