BANGKOK, Nov. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Wynyard Group, a market leader in crime fighting software used by government agencies and financial organisations, has won a contract with a leading narcotics agency, the Office of Narcotic Control Board (ONCB), to assist the Royal Thai Government in its work to protect its citizens from transnational crime groups involved in drug trafficking.

Narcotic trafficking is a growing problem for ASEAN countries, particularly the influx of drugs from the golden triangle, which Thailand borders. The ASEAN Narcotics Cooperation Center in Bangkok is hosted by ONCB and was set up to coordinate cooperation between ASEAN member states to combat drug trafficking across the region. ONCB has a key role to play in achieving Thailand's objective of suppressing drug smuggling activities along its borders.

ONCB keeps close watch on groups and individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking. Mr. Permpong Chaovalit, Secretary-General at ONCB, says Wynyard's advanced crime analytics software will be used to help manage the increasingly heavy and complex case load as the agency builds capability and momentum.

"Partnering with Wynyard will help increase our capabilities in intelligence analysis and in establishing links between drug trafficking gangs. Using Wynyard's crime analytics software will help make it easier for authorities to prosecute suspects and protect the community from organised, transnational crime groups profiting at the expense of others through trafficking narcotics."

Wynyard Group CEO, Craig Richardson, says supporting the work done by ONCB as it leads Thailand's domestic and international anti-narcotics strategy is extremely satisfying. "ONCB is the leading narcotics control agency in the region and we are delighted to be working with them to help build capability and support their achievements in the fight against drug traffickers.

"Agencies operate in complex and ever-changing environments, where international criminal networks and traffickers continue to become smarter and more tech-savvy. As new dangers arise, having the ability to adapt and respond quickly is vital to the efficiency of those tasked with fighting these criminal threats.

"By enhancing ONCB's ability to investigate incidents in an increasingly challenging global criminal environment, the agency can be even more effective in tackling organised crime networks," concluded Richardson.

Wynyard also assists a large number of national and international agencies in South East Asia to investigate drug trafficking and organised crime.

The work with ONCB builds on strong customer demand in Australia and South East Asia for a big data analytics capability focused on surfacing key intelligence on organised crime and drug trafficking from diverse data sources such as financial transactions, mobile phone handsets, call charge records and the movement of people and suspicious packages.
