School in Province of Gansu Rebuilt and Reopened with Support of Panalpina

SHANGHAI, Oct. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- A school in the Chinese province of Gansu that was devastated by the severe earthquake in 2008 has been rebuilt to secure standards and reopened with the aid of the Swiss freight forwarding and logistics company Panalpina. The funds came from Panalpina's "One Shipment One Dollar" campaign.

The primary school in Baoan Village, Baoyang Town, Maiji County, Tianshui City, Gansu Province was reconstructed in cooperation with the Hong Kong based charity organization Sowers Action. Representatives from the management of Panalpina Greater China and project volunteers from Panalpina and Sowers Action as well as local government officials celebrated the reopening of the school together with the school children on September 21, 2012.

The school is laid out for more than 150 children aged 6 to 16. It covers an area of 819 square meters and comprises of four single-story buildings for teaching and two single-story buildings for the accommodation of the teachers. Everything including the boundary wall was rebuilt to earthquake standards. To provide the students with a better environment for studying, Panalpina donated additional items to the school, including books for a new library, the Panalpina Sowers Action Library, equipment for physical education and instruments for music lessons.

Funds from "One Shipment One Dollar" campaign

The full name of the school is Bao An Panalpina Sowers Action Project Hope (SA-PH) Primary School. The funds came from Panalpina's "One Shipment One Dollar" (OSOD) campaign in China. From June 1, 2011 to May 31, 2012, Panalpina donated one yuan per shipment order from or to cities in Greater China to the school project.
