2011-04-11 19:39 2806

SINGAPORE, April 11, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Voyager Inc. and PayPal Japan are pleased to announce that Voyager's e-book online shopping mall "VOYAGER STORE" (http://voyager-store.com/) will add PayPal™, the leading online payments provider, as an alternative payment option to reach 94 million active PayPal accounts worldwide shopping online and on their mobile devices. Payment via PayPal will become available from April 11, 2011. Voyager Inc. (hereinafter "Voyager") is located in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, and the representative president is Masaaki Hagino, and PayPal Japan is located in Minato-ku, Tokyo, and the representative president is Andrew Pipolo.

VOYAGER STORE was launched in November 2010 as an online shopping mall specializing in e-books. VOYAGER STORE currently supports three bookstores including its directly-run Riso Shoten and Altbook, and Toyo Keizai Store operated by TOYO KEIZAI Inc. These three stores in combination handle 6,000 e-book titles covering a comprehensive range of genres including fiction, non-fiction and comic books. Once purchased, consumers can read e-books on their PCs, iPhones or iPads. VOYAGE STORE also offers store spaces in its shopping mall for new tenants.

According to Nomura Research Institute (NRI)'s forecast, the e-book market will likely grow at high rates for both hardware and content, and will reach a JPY240bn content market in Japan by the end of 2015.

PayPal is a leading online payment service worldwide and has been acclaimed for its "Micropayment", low-value payment (less than 2000yen) service and the security capability where consumers can safely pay without having to disclose their personal information. The addition of PayPal as a payment option includes Micropayment, which will significantly improve usability of the shopping mall for every customer living in and outside of Japan, contributing to further growth of the e-book market throughout the world.

The feature adopted this time by VOYAGER STORE is Express Checkout for online and mobile transactions, one of the key services of PayPal. The reference transaction function allows buyers to simply log on to PayPal for the first time and agrees to the payment terms to activate a single-click purchase on VOYAGE STORE thereafter without having to log into PayPal each time. The Mobile Express Checkout has also been adopted for a complete payment experience for users of iPhone™ and iPad™ devices and other smart phones. This function offers a secure mobile payment experience to its users; they can make a payment without having to input credit card information in the small display screen and no financial information is stored on the mobile device. Against the background of the increasing popularity of mobile shopping, these new functions will offer further business opportunities for Voyager to sell e-books and accept payments from mobile device users.
