SHANGHAI, Dec. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao heralded the season of goodwill and giving with a splendid Christmas bazaar, Christmas carol, spectacular lighting-up ceremony and generous gift to needy migrant children on 29th November 2013.

Organised by the Community Center Shanghai, the bazaar featured 55 booths offering a plethora of gift options for early Christmas shoppers. The hotel donated all proceeds from the booth rental fees to the Silver Apple Kindergarten for migrant children in Shanghai. The kindergarten looks after 150 preschool kids aged four to six. Compared with normal children, those kids have less learning opportunities and learning conditions. The charity has earmarked the RMB16, 500 gifts to cover the cost of books for those kids.

Following an afternoon of feverish shopping, all eyes turned to the hotel lobby in anticipation of the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Apart from a huge tree as a centrepiece, a smaller tree formed part of a backdrop featuring a gingerbread house fronted by six little gingerbread men.

Guests were entertained with a medley of Christmas carols performed by a team from Shanghai Community International School.

The highlight of the evening came when Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao General Manager Michael Williamson invited the representative from Silver Apple to join him in turning on the spectacular lighting decorations on the Christmas tree.

Mr. Williamson said the hotel intends to adopt Silver Apple Kindergarten for all its future charity events, and invited guests to make their own donations.
