Fudan University's School of Management to Celebrate 30th Anniversary of Restoration in 2015

- Consolidates the Foundation and Strides Toward a World-Class School

SHANGHAI, Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In 2015, the School of Management, Fudan University will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its restoration. Through 30 years of development, the School of Management, Fudan University has steadily improved its comprehensive strength, fully surpassed other Chinese business schools in terms of the faculty, academic research, talent cultivation and international cooperation, and demonstrated the high standard and new image of Chinese management education on the international stage.

Faculty and Academic Research: Establishing a High Academic Standard

Scientific research strength is the primary indicator for evaluating a business school and the cornerstone of a business school's sustained development. Through 30 years of accumulation and development, the School of Management, Fudan University has made great progress in scientific research and faculty development.

In 2013, the School faculties applied for 94 scientific research projects at various levels, and published a total of 16 monographs and textbooks as well as 251 scientific research papers (1.6 papers per person). The progress in scientific research is reflected by not only the quantity, but also the quality of papers. According to the results of 2012 National Natural Science Foundation of China project evaluation announced in May 2013, one of the School's projects was rated as especially excellent, four as excellent, four as good, and its two key projects both as excellent.

It is worth mentioning that the structure of the academic papers published by the School's faculties witnessed remarkable changes. The number of scientific research papers published in top-tier international journals has been increasing. In particular, the number of articles published in journals on international leading journals has increased significantly by 163%.

According to the statistics from 2011 to 2013, the School has 15 papers published in UTD journals, and the situation of this year is more encouraging with 10 papers published or accepted so far. "UTD" is a standard basically recognized by all business schools in the world and is a catalog of 24 journals (released by the University of Texas at Dallas in the United States, UT/DALLAS-24 for short), covering top international journals in various fields related to management. The UTD Top 100 Business School Research Rankings originated from UTD have become an authoritative indicator for evaluating the international research rankings of the business schools of various institutions of higher learning. The rankings are based on the number of papers published in 24 main academic journals on business and the times of quotation in the last five years, and are released annually.

While publishing papers on first-class domestic journals, the School's faculties attached importance to applied research, provided consulting services for the government, carried out research projects entrusted by enterprises, and contributed to local social and economic development.

Meanwhile, through 30 years of efforts, the School has established a faculty with a rational discipline structure oriented towards future development. As of the end of 2013, the School had 152 faculty members, including 46 professors and 65 associate professors. 94.7% of them held doctor's degrees, including 58 of whom were granted doctor's degrees overseas, accounting for 38.2% of the total number of faculty members. Most teachers are able to not only carry out communication, exchange and even conduct cooperative researches with world-class experts and scholars, combine the latest international academic thoughts with Chinese business practices and solve the common issues and challenges faced by Chinese entrepreneurs and professional managers, but also provide the entire world with practical management thoughts based on the domestic situations.

Outstanding alumni and their achievements are an important standard for evaluating a successful business school. As of the end of 2013, the number of the School's graduates had exceeded 30,000. In leading and managing enterprises in different sectors, they play important roles in economic and social development. Many of them have become models in their fields, given the examples of Board Chairman of China Lonking Holdings Limited Xinyan LI, who as a leader in the forcing machine sector, has consistently devoted himself to public welfare and actively participated in various charitable activities, and won the "China Charity Award" many times; Board Chairman of Baosteel Group Corporation Lejiang XU, who as a leader in China's manufacturing sector, has led Baosteel to change from made-in-China to created-in-China and built Baosteel into China's largest and the world's 5th largest integrated iron and steel works; and Board Chairman of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. Internationalization has always been the School's development strategy. Through 30 years of development, the internationalization strategy has covered all aspects including the students, the faculties, scientific researches, the curriculum design, and relations with enterprises and international cooperation, etc.

Now the School has established several international cooperation programs including the Fudan-Washington University EMBA Program, the Fudan-HKU IMBA Program, the Fudan-BI (Norway) MBA Program and the Fudan Asia MBA Program, and has won praises for its outstanding teaching quality. According to the FT rankings of the EMBA programs around the world announced recently, the Fudan-Washington University EMBA Program ranks 7th in the world (it has ranked among the top 20 EMBA programs for nine consecutive years and its average ranking is the highest in mainland China); the Fudan-HKU IMBA Program is ranked 49th in the world and 2nd in the world in terms of the student salary growth rate; the Fudan-BI (Norway) MBA Program is ranked 55th in the world, and the Part-time MBA Program ranks 8th worldwide.

Meanwhile, the School has also actively joined cooperation organizations intended to strengthen exchange and cooperation in scientific research among excellent business schools in various countries, and expanded and diversified its global resources. The School became a member of various well-known international education organizations in recent years, which helped increase its international reputation. In 2007, the School of Management was admitted as a formal member of the Partnership in International Management (PIM). In 2009, the School became a full member of the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). At the same time, the School was awarded EQUIS's (European Quality Improvement System) accreditation in 2009 and obtained AACSB's (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation in 2010 within the shortest period of time in the world.
