NEW YORK, Nov. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The difference in pay between men and women in investor relations has narrowed in the past two years, according to a new report by IR Magazine.

The IR Magazine Global Investor Relations Practice Report 2014 compares the results of a study of over 600 investor relations practitioners with the results of a similar study conducted for the 2012 edition.

The median pay range for both male and female investor relations officers is the same at $100,000-$150,000 per annum. The real gender difference lies among high earners, with 36% of men and 25% of women earning above the average pay range.

This gap, while substantial, has narrowed considerably from 2012, when male IROs were almost four times as likely to earn above $150,000 than their female counterparts (39%, compared to 11%)

"When we highlighted this issue two years ago, we saw it as a wake-up call for the IR community," says Janet Dignan, founding editor of IR Magazine. "There's no such thing as an acceptable difference in pay between men and women, but these findings are a clear improvement."

This narrowing of the pay gap is also found among heads of department. In 2012, just 13% of female IR heads earned over $250,000, compared with 24% of male heads. In 2014 the figure for women has doubled to 26%, while the male figure has increased 5 percentage points to 29%.

IR Magazine's Global Investor Relations Practice Report 2014 is based on a survey of over 1,500 individual IR practitioners worldwide.
