SINGAPORE, Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- DHL, a global leader in the logistics industry, was crowned "Global 3PL of the Year" and "Air Freight Forwarder of the Year" at the 2014 Supply Chain Asia Awards. Now in its 13th year, this annual awards program, organized by industry association Supply Chain Asia, recognizes the achievements and contributions of corporations and individuals across the supply chain and logistics industry.

DHL Supply Chain was voted "Global 3PL of the Year" for the second year running on the strength of its world-class and highly customizable supply chain solutions designed for a variety of industries such as Automotive, Consumer, Life Sciences & Healthcare and Technology. DHL Global Forwarding took home the "Air Freight Forwarder of the Year" honors for its commitment to providing increased air freight capacity at cost-effective rates across more routes worldwide.

"Winning the 'Global 3PL of the Year' award for two consecutive years is a real testament to the efforts and focus of our talented people. To be formally recognized for the dedication and hard work emphasizes why companies around the world trust us to manage their supply chain operations," said Oscar de Bok, CEO, Asia Pacific, DHL Supply Chain.

To boost its capabilities in Asia Pacific, DHL Supply Chain has committed substantial investments over the past two years to develop high quality warehouse facilities and enhance transport networks.

"Receiving the accolade of 'Air Freight Forwarder of the Year' while holding strong our position as air freight market leader in 2013 in a challenging air cargo industry is a heartening sign of our customers' long-term confidence in us. After several years of slower growth, international air freight is finally on the rebound with volumes expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.1% over the next five years[1]. As customers rely on air freight again, our market leadership puts us in good stead to continue to broker the best transport services deals with freight carriers for them," said Kelvin Leung, CEO, Asia Pacific, DHL Global Forwarding.

In anticipation of the rising air freight trade volumes, DHL Global Forwarding recently launched a freight capacity management program that focuses on securing long term capacity on its busiest trade lanes globally including those to and from Asia Pacific.

The nominees of the Supply Chain Asia awards are shortlisted based on independent analysis of qualitative and quantitative parameters, such as financial performance and market presence. Winners are decided by public votes and industry judges.
