Marintec China 2015 Senior Maritime Forum Spotlights the Opportunities of the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road

HONG KONG, Oct. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- With China's economic development framework the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road currently serving as the hottest topic in the shipping and business world, UBM Asia, organisers of Marintec China -- The Largest and Most Authoritative Trade Fair in Asia -- is pleased to announce the focus of this topic and surrounding business opportunities at the Marintec China 2015 Senior Maritime Forum.  Dr Dostain Khan Jamaldini, Chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority, and Prof Paolo Costa, President of the Venice Port Authority, are two of many distinguished speakers to present at this year's 2015 forum to be held on the 30 November to 3 December at the Kerry Hotel Pudong in Shanghai.

The Belt and Road initiative was unveiled in 2013, with the goal of promoting prosperity in regions spanning the seas from China to Africa and Europe.  Located in Balochistan in Pakistan, Gwadar Port is at one end of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor which stretches to Kashgar in Xinjiang, China. With roads, railways and pipelines to transport oil and gas, this corridor serves as a bridge for China's planned Maritime Silk Route.

Mr Jamaldini has been Chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority since November 2013 and previously served in various high-level positions in the Balochistan government.

China's planned 21st Century Maritime Silk Road connects ports in China to those in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe, including Venice. This famous Italian city featured as a trading port on the ancient Silk Road.

Prof Costa, who has been President of the Venice Port Authority since 2008, is also President-in-charge of North Adriatic Ports Association. Prior to his current appointment, Prof Costa was in academia and public service. He served at various times as Minister of Public Works and Urban Areas, Mayor of Venice, and President of the European Parliament Transport Committee.

Mr Fang Huaijin, Vice President of Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd, will address on speeding up the Phase 4 Project of Yangshan Port; completing the world's largest first-class automatic pier; and participating in the state strategy of The Belt and Road.

Other Keynote Speakers

Additional internationally recognized speakers including Dr Sun Licheng, Vice Chairman of the International Association of Classification Societies and Chairman & President of China Classification Society (CCS), who studied navigation at university, has been the President and Chairman of CCS since 2012. Dr. Sun Licheng will deliver a keynote speech on the commercial and regulatory environment for shipping in the next five years.

Prof Martin Stopford, President -- Research Services, Clarksons Platou, returns this year again as a keynote speaker. They are among the more than fifty speakers who will address the Senior Maritime Forum.

Now in its 18th edition, the Forum is a pivotal platform for maritime industry professionals. The theme of the Senior Maritime Forum 2015 is "Innovation Drives Development, the Green Agenda Guides the Future". The Forum is held alongside Marintec China 2015 which takes place 1-4 December 2015 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
