SAN FRANCISCO, August 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The annual meeting of the World Association of Chinese Doctors (WACD) was held on August 19-21 at Stanford University, hosted by the Society of Chinese American Physician Entrepreneurs (SCAPE). The theme of the meeting was "Connect the World, Build Our Health Together". The meeting was in collaboration with the Stanford University School of Medicine with sponsors including Bodhi Health. A long-term strategic cooperation agreement was signed by WACD and Bodhi Health to establish an intelligent platform for Chinese doctors overseas.

The meeting attracted several hundred expert health professionals of Chinese heritage from all over the world, including China, USA, Canada, Great Britain, Macao and more, to discuss how to work together and leverage their medical expertise to improve health in China and the world. This is a milestone event which is the first time that physicians of Chinese backgrounds were connected in the context of ongoing healthcare reform in China.

It is known that China is stepping into an aging society. By 2026, it is estimated that people older than 65 in China will reach more than 300 million, and they will be the ones who require more medical care and attention. As Chinese people grow wealthier, their demand of high quality medical care increases as well. However, the current healthcare system in China does not meet this growing demand. There is basically no primary care system in China. Patients' trust in doctors is low because of over-diagnosis and overtreatment by some profit-pursuing physicians and the hospitals behind them. Furthermore, there is currently no patient-centered medical service in China.

Topics explored at the conference included the current status of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in China, cross-border healthcare management, and clinical application of precision medicine and mobile health. There was also a panel discussion of opportunities and challenges of cross-border healthcare in business and academics.

WACD signed an agreement with Bodhi Health to provide comprehensive and reliable cross-border healthcare, gather Chinese professional physicians worldwide and satisfy the ever-growing healthcare demands of the Chinese population.

Dr. Gang Fu, President of Bodhi Healthcare, who made a speech of "To Enter an Intelligent Era", discussed cross-border medicine and mobile health. "As demands of cross-border healthcare are rising, the industry needs to be standardized as fast as possible. We wish to build a platform connecting global physicians with Chinese backgrounds to Chinese patients, helping them receive world-leading healthcare services and providing reliable guarantee for cross-border healthcare designed for Chinese patients," he said.

According to Dr. Xiang Qian, Founder and President of SCAPE, the association that hosted the meeting, "This meeting, which connected healthcare experts and great minds of Chinese heritage from around the world, has inspired brilliant conversations and ideas, and tremendous collaboration opportunities across disciplines, across the Pacific, and in all sub-domains in the healthcare & medicine field. We have full confidence in China's healthcare industry & market, and our collaboration outlook ahead. This meeting is just a start; we look forward to working closely with our counterparts in China and around the world, and together to bring China's healthcare to a brand new level."

Dr. Yanling Zhang, President of WACD and Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA) concluded, "This is a very meaningful meeting with profound impact. Through conversations with our peers and other healthcare professionals in the US, Canada, and around the world, we have gained deep insights in the world's leading healthcare system. Medical doctors are the backbone of a country's healthcare system; going forward, we sincerely hope to have close and deep collaboration with the US healthcare industry organizations and experts to improve Chinese residents' training program, and to train more high-caliber medical doctors to better serve Chinese patients."
