The Jiangxi Bureau of the People's Daily Invites Journalists from around the World to Experience Jiangxi Culture

JINGDEZHEN, China, Dec. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Porcelain is the universal language of mankind. Over 40 journalists, including several from abroad, gathered together at the last stop of a tour event that had invited journalists from around the world to visit China's Jiangxi province, on December 3. The last stop was Taoxichuan, a ceramic-themed street in Jingdezhen, a town that is known throughout China as the Porcelain Capital and is located in the northeastern corner of Jiangxi province. Liu Zili, Chairman of Jingdezhen Ceramic Culture Tourism Group, held talks with the journalists at a ceramics culture museum sponsored by the People's Daily. The museum has been operating on a trial basis.

Since 2013, Jingdezhen has been refurbishing its former industrial sites including factories and kilns to revitalize and continue historical traditions, as part of the town's plan to develop and promote an industry centered around its ceramic culture. In April of the same year, Jingdezhen started construction of the first part of Taoxichuan Ceramic Art Avenue, a 130,000 square-meter ceramic-themed complex on the site of the former Yuzhou Ceramic Plant site.

Twenty-two factory buildings and a number of kiln facilities have been maintained in their original state since becoming part of the complex three years ago, and have now become a component of a unique blend of contemporary art, craft galleries, museums, artist studios, cultural experience zones, handicraft shops, restaurants, entertainment facilities and hotels that line the avenue. After approximately 60 years of operation, the former state-owned Yuzhou Ceramic Plant has now become an integral part of the shop-and museum-lined street.

Porcelain is the universal language of mankind, said Mr. Liu. As early as the Song Dynasty (AD 420-479), Jingdezhen's ceramic works were already making their way across the ancient Silk Road trade routes to Europe. Jingdezhen has since exported ceramic works to Europe and the Americas as well as across Asia. Ceramic goods from Jingdezhen are expected to play an important role in the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, the Chinese government's program to build trade along the same Silk Road routes with the aim of promoting industrial development and cultural exchanges.

A number of ideas and techniques that are now used by ceramics producers everywhere originated from Jingdezhen, demonstrating how Jingdezhen's ceramics culture now is in line with global standards.
