DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, March 7 /Xinhua-PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Global Sources (Nasdaq: GSOL) has opened an office in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. The new office will be the focal point of the company's expansion of its successful China Sourcing Fairs trade shows to the Middle East.

The company's first Middle East trade show, the China Sourcing Fair: Gifts & Home Products, will be held June 11-13, 2007, at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Global Sources Chairman and CEO, Merle A. Hinrichs, said: "The China Sourcing Fairs provide a valuable opportunity for buyers to meet suppliers and to conduct business face-to-face. The expansion of the China Sourcing Fairs to Dubai is an important milestone, as it will be the first specialized, large-scale exhibition of China suppliers ever held in Dubai. Buyers from the Middle East and surrounding markets can now conveniently buy direct from China suppliers."

The Dubai office will be managed by General Manager, Bill Janeri, a 16-year veteran of the company. Mr. Janeri said: "Dubai is the place to be right now. It is the world's third-largest re-export market after Hong Kong and Singapore. Since much of the Middle East's trade comes through Dubai, it is an ideal location to expand the China Sourcing Fairs and ideal for buyers in the region who want to source direct from China."

Over the past eight years, the average rate of Dubai's imports from China has grown faster than those from any other market. Dubai's imports from China grew at an average rate of 14 percent from 1997 to 2005. Seventeen percent of Dubai's imports came from China in 2005, making China Dubai's largest trading partner for imported goods.

The Fair is timed to be held between the April and October sourcing seasons in Asia. This allows buyers who normally source from Asia to supplement their sourcing between these periods. It also allows buyers who don't normally source from Asia to begin doing so without having to travel to Asia.

Exclusive conference, extensive exhibition

The three-day event will also feature an exclusive, multi-session conference program focused on "How to Source from China." The conference sessions, to be presented by leaders in trade with China, will cover topics such as working with China suppliers, quality control, payment processing, and shipping & logistics. "This will be the first time ever that a specialized conference program on how to source from China will be presented in Dubai," Mr. Janeri added.

The China Sourcing Fair in Dubai is expected to feature over 400 booths from Greater China, which includes mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Major exhibited product categories include:

-- Gifts & premiums

-- Toys

-- Electronic premiums
