MELBOURNE, Australia, March 23 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Pacific Internet (Australia), part of the Asia Pacific's largest telco-independent communications service provider (CSP) by geographic reach, Pacific Internet Limited (Nasdaq: PCNTF), has had a double win in a Victorian Government-wide Internet services tender, Pacific Internet announced today.

The win gives Pacific Internet (PacNet) the exclusive opportunity to seek new contracts in the provision of Internet services, including associated services such as virus protection, spam and content filtering, email services and web hosting, with a number of Victorian Departments for the coming half year.

PacNet was also named one of four Internet service providers to have Victorian Government preferred supplier status for the next three years as part of a larger 'whole of business Victorian Government Internet services -- business award.'

Mr Dennis Muscat, Managing Director of Pacific Internet Australia, said: "When we established our Australian presence with the opening of our Melbourne office in 2001, we made a commitment to develop first class Internet services and create employment opportunities for Victorians. Winning this tender culminates our efforts to fulfill this promise."

"While the key to our appointment is value for money, our understanding of government Internet service needs and our ability to provide superior service and tailored, end-to-end communications solutions stands us above our competitors."

Dr Tony Aitkenhead, Chief Technology Officer of Multimedia Victoria, said that the tender was part of an initiative to improve the communications solutions available to Victorian Government departments in an effort to stay ahead of demand.

"Victoria is an entrepreneurial, tech-savvy state with a broadband take-up second only to New South Wales. Our departments are relying more heavily on sophisticated communications solutions to communicate more effectively with our constituents and our tender reflects this need," Dr Aitkenhead said.

The Victorian Government Departments covered by the tender include: Vic Roads; Department of Justice; Depart of Human Resources; Department of Treasury and Finance; Department of Treasury and Cabinet; Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development; Department of Infrastructure; Department of Victorian Communities; Department of Sustainability Environment; the State Revenue Office and Parliament.

Pacific Internet Limited President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Teck Moh Phey, said the announcement was a significant win for Pacific Internet Limited.

"This win comes on the back of our best company growth figures. It's further proof that PacNet's a significant player in the Asia Pacific communications solutions space."

"We work hard to ensure we understand the communication needs of each of our customers in order to provide tailored, high-end IP communications solutions."

"Our deep knowledge of each of our local markets combined with the leveraging strength of our geographic reach gives PacNet a unique offering in the Asia Pacific market," Mr Phey said.
