KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- In 2010, ICANN, also known as Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers will begin accepting new generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) applications in Latin and

non-Latin characters. By applying for a new gTLD creates an identity and global presence in the Internet name space. Furthermore, new gTLD initiatives for cities help to create positive effect on the city economy and in return help business in the city.

Asia:The Future ( http://www.AsiaTheFuture.org ), an initiative by RegistryASP, is aimed to advocate and promote new gTLD among Asian communities and corporate society.

"With this initiative, we hope that the Asian communities won't be left out in this important milestone and now with the ability to apply in non-Latin characters only expands the horizons for Asian communities to apply in Mandarin or other languages." said RegistryASP, CEO, TK Tan.

There are 21 gTLDs currently operating where .com (Verisign) is the most sought after top level domain and only 1 gTLD represents Asia. By 2010, ICANN estimates 500 new gTLD applications from all over the world.

Community champions can submit new gTLD application based on generic word, community based or geographically based. For example, ".beijing" represents Beijing city in China and by creating such name space allows business or individuals to have a global presence and immediately trigger visitor's expectation and relevancy.

Please visit AsiaTheFuture.org for more information and help us spread the awareness to all corners of Asia.
