GUIDING, China, June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Themed "dream and exploiting", the International Industry Exhibition of Guiding county was launched on June 18 in Beijing's Wangjing area, the second central business district of the Chinese capital city.

The event was unveiled jointly by Liu Jianmin, Party chief of the county, Chen Yao, researcher of the Institute of Industrial Economics, Zhang Meng, vice-president of CRI Online, and Li Yuan, editor in chief of CRI Online's City Channel.

Government officials and delegates of Beijing's industry, culture and press circles were invited to the unveiling ceremony.

The latest development of Guiding's industry was shown via exhibits, pictures, 3D video materials and lectures.

Guiding stands in the heart of Southwest China's Guizhou province, covering an area of 1,631 square kilometers. For decades, the county's economy had depended on manufacturing of cigars and cigarettes. But in recent years, the local government made a series of plans to upgrade its industry.

The authorities planned an industrial park in the north of the county, covering 21 sq km. In the center, there will be another 36-sq-km industrial zone by the railway line.

They have also planned an industrial cluster based on traditional industrial infrastructure. It now covers only 4 sq km, but will be expanded to nearly 70 sq km.

High-tech sectors will play a key role in Guiding's future economy, such as biotechnology and low carbon industry.

In a keynote speech at the unveiling ceremony of the exhibition, Liu said the county will interact with China's coastal areas, to become a manufacturing center and supply base for Southeast China and Southeast Asian countries.

Chen suggested Guiding develop industries "with local features". He also encouraged establishment of industrial clusters, to form a completed industrial chain, expand scale, and reduce cost.

"We are exploring a model that combines industry development and eco-friendliness," said Liu.

"There are 2,000 counties in China, and we are not the best in the province. Then why do we come here? That's because we see it as a platform to show ourselves, to explore and learn," he added. "We cannot make the right decision without a right concept."

"And we will learn from our past failures to win opportunities of success."

Guiding was awarded Town of Global Communication by CRI Online's City Channel at the unveiling ceremony.

There were also art performances shown at the ceremony.
