BEIJING, Sept. 20 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Beijing Redflag Chinese 2000 Software Co., Ltd. (the “Company”) announces its office suite product, RedOffice, based on OpenOffice and the leading Open Source application since its launch in 2001, has stolen the spotlight at the Fifth Annual OpenOffice.org Conference. During this conference, Open Source elites from around world are expecting to learn more about RedOffice.

The Company is the first Chinese team devoted to the study of OOo Open Source Code and the creator of RedOffice, the first Chinese office suite based on OpenOffice. RedOffice is widely used and promoted by the Chinese government and enterprises. Its usage continues to increase since its launch in 2000. More and more Chinese are becoming acquainted with Open Source technology and chose Open Source products because of the efforts of all those who contribute. This is very important in resisting the monopoly of larger corporations.

Mr. Hu Caiyong, General Manager of Beijing Redflag 2000, was invited to make a keynote speech called “Software is a Kind of Culture” at the conference. Mr. Hu pointed that RedOffice's success story should serve as a model for the future development of OpenOffice and that it should look beyond the simple localization concept and the technology itself. He further explains that OpenOffice should concentrate on ridding itself of simple technological research, and instead combine with local cultural features, meet users' requirements and strive for more government support and guide. As to how to advance the promotion and application of OpenOffice.org, Mr. Hu stated that, "The Company won't be satisfied with what it has achieved in the past and will continue to contribute to the latest technologies with the international community because only through contribution and communication can the Open Source community gain a relevant position and voice. The company will develop further only if it enhances the cooperation with the OOo community."

Redflag is said to be a premium sponsor with IBM, Google and Novell at the conference.
