Langkawi, Malaysia, 8 June 2023- The Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) has been awarded the Award for Government Service Delivery for MICE Tourism Promotion Strategies at the inaugural IBR Global Maritime and Aerospace Awards (IBR GMA Awards) which was held at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIECE) in Langkawi on 26 May 2023.
LADA is the agency under the Ministry of Finance Malaysia entrusted with planning, promoting and implementing programmes to advance Langkawi Island and its surrounding archipelago.
The organisation received the award in recognition of its efforts to promote Langkawi as a top 20 tourism destination, particularly for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE).
Among the factors the Adjudication Panel of the IBR GMA Awards 2023 took into account when deciding to give the Award to LADA were the agency’s track record in planning and implementing tourism promotion programmes and strategies. These include the Langkawi Tourism Travel Velemong Program and the Langkawi Paasca COVID-19 Tourism Sector Recovery Plan.
In addition, LADA was also recognised for its efforts in working with other agencies and hospitality companies – hotels, tourism operators and other related organisations – in enhancing tourism offerings in Langkawi. As a result, in 2022, Langkawi welcomed 2.581 million visitors, more than double the number of visitors it received in 2021. It has also played host to a number of international events such as the 28th International Input-Output Association (IIOA) Conference and will host the Routes Asia 2024 Conference.
In his acceptance speech, LADA Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Wan Kamarul Faisal Wan Kamardin said, “This recognition symbolises an important milestone in our relentless pursuit of excellence” and that receiving the IBR GMA Award will help LADA advance its message that Langkawi is the best MICE destination in Asia.
