Over the past decades, Dubai has sensationally evolved from a dry desert to a highly developed city with modern infrastructure. However, the hot weather, which even hits 50°C in the summer, makes it unbearable to be outdoors. This explains why winter is the most anticipated season all year long.

In case you need more convincing, we’ve rounded up the reasons why you need to head to Dubai this winter.

1. Perfect weather to be outdoors

As mentioned, Dubai is hot and humid all year round except for the three months of winter. While the winter season here may not as cold as other countries, it’s the most pleasant weather to be out and about in Dubai, with the temperature ranging between 25°C during the day and 14°C at night. The cooler weather also means people are in a better mood - you will notice the happy faces around.

2. Soak in all the festivals

Dubai is big on festivals, and all the best events take place during the winter. Global Village, which runs from early November to April, showcases the culture and food of all the participating countries from all over the world. If you’re into music, Dubai Jazz Festival in February features a stunning line-up and sells out every year. The festive New Year’s Eve celebration is also not to be missed.

3. Beach season

Believe it or not, winter is the season to hit the beach in Dubai. The mild temperature makes a lovely time for a stroll by the beach and feel the cool breeze in your face. There are plenty of pristine public beaches that you can head to, including Open Beach (or commonly known as Russian Beach) and Umm Suqeim at Jumeirah, if you’re not staying at a beach resort.

4. Barbecue season

Besides the beach, winter is also the best time for people to gather for barbecues. On weeknights and weekends, the parks are packed with families and friends picnicking or grilling kebabs on their portable barbecues, which are often followed by coffee, sheesha and some games. Jumeirah Beach Park is one of the best places for picnic and barbecue, especially when you’re there in the evening to watch the sun disappear beyond the horizon over the sea.

5. Be a part of the sport events

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships is an unmissable sporting event in the country. The annual event is headlined by world class players, including Roger Federer who holds the record for most titles (7). Up for a challenge? Participate in the Dubai Marathon, held late-January and features a full marathon, 10km road race and 3km fun run. The best thing about running in Dubai is that the country is really flat, so this is your chance to record your best time.
