KUALA LUMPUR, November 27 2019 - The upcoming Pavilion Bukit Jalil shopping mall set to open in 2021 has secured one million sq ft of confirmed tenants and is close to securing another 300, 000 square feet with committed tenants for the mall.

The ceremony to unveil Pavilion Bukit Jalil as “The Icon of Connectivity” and announce the anchor tenants of the mall was officiated by Yang Berhormat Tuan Muhammad Bakhtiar bin Wan Chik, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia alongside Dato’ Joyce Yap, CEO Retail of Kuala Lumpur Pavilion Sdn Bhd and Datuk Lee Whay Hoong, Director, Regal Path Sdn Bhd, owner of Pavilion Bukit Jalil.

Anchor tenants include Parkson, Dadi Cinema, Food Republic, The Food Merchant, Harvey Norman and Pavilion Bukit Jalil Ice Rink.

With a total of 1.8 million sq ft of retail space, Pavilion Bukit Jalil is part of the 50-acre integrated Bukit Jalil City development, comprising retail, residential, commercial and hospitality components.

Speaking at the event, Dato’ Joyce Yap, said “Despite current market conditions, there are still many regional brands interested to enter Malaysia because of our strong fundamentals and low business cost”.

Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, who was at the unveiling ceremony, commended the Pavilion team for their success with Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, which has proven to be a tourism icon due to the quality shopping experience and exciting events all year round.

Bakhtiar said lifestyle and shopping activities of international tourists continue to be the biggest contributors to the tourism sector’s earnings. In 2018, shopping contributed RM28.1 billion or 33.4% of tourist receipts, with an increase of 4.6% compared to 2017.

He also shared that the country recorded RM41.69 billion in tourist receipts in the first half of this year, representing a 6.8% increase as compared to the same period the year before.

According to Mastercard’s Global Destination Cities Index 2019, Kuala Lumpur, in particular, has been identified as the second fastest growing destination in the world, after being ranked sixth among top destinations for international visitors in 2018 (behind Bangkok, Paris, London, Dubai and Singapore).

The upward trajectory has shown a positive sign for the ministry to kick off an ambitious Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign, targeting 30 million tourist arrivals and RM100 billion in tourist receipts.

With shopping as the number one tourism receipt contributor and the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2020, Pavilion Bukit Jalil will be following the footsteps of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur to support the vision to make Malaysia a top shopping destination.

With its strategic location, Pavilion Bukit is highly accessible to a catchment population of 1.9 million. Pavilion Bukit Jalil boasts excellent connectivity, served by public transport and two LRT stations, as well as a synergy of roads and major highways including the Bukit Jalil Highway, Kesas Highway, MRR2 and the Maju Expressway.
