2010-04-06 11:11

Shanghai, March 23rd – As the 2010 Expo approaches, more companies have gotten involved in the PR battle to boost their brand awareness. On March 18th, PR Newswire Asia held a Media Coffee in Shanghai, under the theme, the World Expo and Corporate Communication. PR professionals from various well-known companies, including Unilever China, Canning, Pentair Water, Lining and Jungheinrich got together with journalists from several of China’s famous media organizations, such as, the China Business News and Global Times, to discuss the opportunities to leverage the World Expo in order to communicate company information to the world more effectively.

The World Expo 2010 Shanghai will undoubtedly serve as an excellent opportunity for enterprises to reach out to the world market, and the question on many people's lips was, "How can Chinese enterprises reinforce the faces of their brands through this glamorous platform?" The media attendees offered their suggestions.

The financial journalists suggested appointing a spokesperson to make the PR messages more acceptable to the media. For example, "With the combination of advanced solar technologies and architecture, we can seamlessly integrate solar systems into a building's structure. These promising capabilities will help to reduce the urban carbon footprint and facilitate sustainable development,” said Dr. Zhengrong Shi, Chairman and CEO of Suntech. In addition, providing useful diagrams, data, photos and graphics will help companies win the race for media attention. Press releases with photos and captions draw more media attention than those of mere words. According to PR Newswire Asia's Chinese Journalists Survey, over 90% of media journalists are more likely to use press releases with high resolution photos and videos.

The journalists from the mass media advised companies to provide the media with interesting news stories with strong storylines and details as frequently as possible. Companies should avoid exaggerations and hasty conclusions, and provide valuable information concisely, and use objective descriptions in their press releases, so as to reinforce the effectiveness of the communication. Comparisons of difference ages and different companies of the industry worldwide are also welcomed.

The Shanghai Expo will begin on May 1st 2010 and run until October 31st 2010. The duration is 184 days. The organizers are expecting over 70 million visitors, which not only brings Shanghai an enormous opportunity for economic growth, but also offers enterprises a great chance to showcase their brands to the world.
