With Australian businesses importing around AU$14 billion in business services per annum, the modern workforce is now more flexible and global than ever before and businesses are now integrating global teams into their long-term growth strategy.

The State of Offshoring Report, which provides insights, trends and analysis from medium, large and listed business who have and have not used offshoring, found 88% would recommend offshoring as part of their future business strategy.

Angela Vidler, Diversify CEO, said businesses were recognising the diverse range of benefits associated with modern workforces, including offshoring back-end business process roles.

"Today's connected world means that any work that can be done on a computer can ultimately be done anywhere--be that from a home office, while travelling or in offshore locations around the world," Ms Vidler said.

"However, one of the biggest challenges for businesses when it comes to offshoring is the negative stigma still associated with offshoring roles, with many still believing that it is taking local jobs and moving them overseas."

While almost half of all businesses surveyed for the report said cost pressure was the main reason for offshoring, over 60% of private and listed businesses had not decreased local hiring practices.

"One of the biggest benefits of offshoring is undoubtedly cost savings, but it also enables companies to enhance capabilities and expand operations in other areas of the business. It also means local employees are able to focus on higher value-add roles, which ultimately aids local retention of great talent," Ms Vidler said.

Second to cost pressures, competitiveness was reported as a key driver in the decision to offshore particular roles with over 80% of businesses saying offshoring has helped them be more competitive in a rapidly globalising market.

"Businesses are experiencing increased competition from new market players and are constantly looking for ways to have a competitive edge. Utilising global time zones means business can deliver significant service, cost effectively, over a 24-hour period--jobs and tasks can be turned around faster and effectively by utilising offshore teams," Ms Vidler said.
