Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO, Andre Viljoen said the new route further extended the airline's reach in North America, with onward connections available to most US and Canadian cities.

"We're proud to announce this new service which will give our Fiji customers a direct connection to the very popular city of San Francisco and beyond for leisure and family travel. And for our San Francisco customers, the flights will bring them to one of their favourite vacation destinations."

The flight will depart Nadi on Thursdays and Sundays at 9pm (local time), arriving in San Francisco 12:30pm (local time, the same day). The San Francisco-Nadi flight will depart at 11pm (local time) Thursdays and Sundays, arriving in Nadi at 5am (local time, +2 days). Operated on Fiji Airways' A330 aircraft, the 10-hour flights offer both Economy and Business Class travel options. All Fiji Airways flights are full-service, and include checked baggage, in-flight entertainment, meals and beverages.

Mr. Viljoen added: "This new service is in line with our network expansion targets and gives us further reach into North America. The seasonal flying takes into account common vacation trends out of the United States. Along with the Fijian community, the Samoan and Tongan communities living in San Francisco are also big winners with this direct service. It will offer them a convenient one-stop flight back to their homeland to see family and friends."

Fijian Attorney General and Minister for Public Enterprises and Civil Aviation, the Honourable Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the direct flights to San Francisco will position Fiji as the hub of the Pacific and transit hub.

"Fiji now connects to all the continents that rim the Pacific basin except South America and that obviously could be our next frontier that we could get into in the long term," he said.

Hon. Sayed-Khaiyum said that this is also a proud moment for all Fijians to unite and support our national carrier.

"Flying to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and this is the level of connectivity our national carrier provides and this is something we all need to be proud of and that will also create a lot of economic opportunities for Fiji," Hon. Sayed-Khaiyum said.

"It will also mean we are creating more employment and it creates opportunities for more crew members and pilots."

The flights are now available for sale with an attractive introductory return fare of F$1,999.

This sale starts tomorrow and tickets can be purchased through the Fiji Airways website, www.fijiairways.com, or by calling the Fiji Airways Global Reservations Centre.
