The Gyeongnam Goseong Dinosaur World Expo will open on April 1 for a 73-day run, promising to "surprise and impress" visitors with life-size replicas of dinosaurs and various programs using state-of-the-art technology.

It will be the fourth international dinosaur expo to be hosted by Goseong, some 460 kilometers south of Seoul. The previous ones were held in 2006, 2009 and 2012.

This year's event to take place in the Danghangpo Tourism Zone has the theme of "Open the future with a dinosaur and the light of hope." Organizers are preparing to offer a host of fun activities for families and couples by "bringing dinosaurs back to life" via IT and advanced moving picture technologies. Around 1.8 million visitors are expected.

"We are doing our best so that visitors can go back home with pleasure and satisfaction," Bin Yeong-ho, secretary-general of the organizing committee, said.

Visitors will be able to use beacon-based services for more effective and convenient tours. They can download a relevant app from the website of Goseong county office and activate Bluetooth for a video and audio guide of exhibits and amenities as well as recommended tours and waiting time.

For kids, in particular, the expo will offer opportunities to learn about and discover dinosaurs in detail.

In the DinoAquarium, a pair of shoebills, dinosaur-like giant birds, will be made public for the first time in South Korea, along with an albino crocodile and a mermaid-like manatee.

Each day, various types of replica dinosaurs, including one that is 4-meters wide and 1.8-meters high, will parade down the expo venue as well.

This year's show is designed to provide a more vivid experience of dinosaurs via hologram videos made in 3D, 4D and 5D to be aired on a 360-degree screen. Dinosaurs to be on display include the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Brachiosaurus and Stegosaurus.

A variety of interactive content and hands-on experience programs, both indoor and outdoor, will be available.

The upcoming expo has two separate sub-themes for day and night. In the nighttime program to last through 10 p.m., dazzling light and laser shows will be displayed at the main plaza and on some walls, which include a "golden tunnel" and a "dinosaur gate."

"For the daytime, we are focusing on giving excitement and joy to children. At night, couples and other adults will be able to make a beautiful memory of magnificent light," Bin said.
