TAIPEI, , June 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Otis Gen2® elevator is now available in Taiwan to elevate passengers' riding experiences. The product launch was announced recently at a customer event, introducing one of Otis' best-selling elevators to Taiwan. Otis, the world's leading manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways, is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
The innovative Gen2® elevator system is designed to save energy and space, while maximizing passenger comfort. It features a revolutionary coated steel belt and is equipped with the ReGen® drive that reduces energy consumption. The Gen2 coated steel belt and innovative machine do not require lubrication.

Revolutionary steel belts enhance space efficiency:
The Gen2® machine-roomless and mini-machine room elevator options offer space savings for builders, making it ideally suited for both residential and commercial buildings. The revolutionary coated steel belt avoids the metal-to-metal contact of rope to sheave. Thanks to the significantly smaller bending radius that's seen in wire ropes, the ultra-compact permanent magnet gearless machine is smaller and more efficient than conventional geared machines.
Designed for Energy Efficiency
The Gen2® Regen® drive uses unique regenerative technology to convert energy into electricity, which is then fed back to the internal power grid for use with other building systems. This reduces overall elevator energy consumption by 75 percent under normal operation compared to conventional geared machines with non-regenerative drives. Also, the Gen2® machine and coated steel belts require no additional lubrication, eliminating the need for associated storage, cleanup and disposal of hazardous waste.
Smooth, quiet performance
The Gen2® elevator's unique, patented flat-belt drive technology significantly reduces vibration, providing passengers and tenants a remarkably smooth, quiet ride and improved overall comfort compared to conventional systems.
Enhanced seismic protection
The Gen2® elevator's flat coated steel belts, coupled with the machine sheave's unique design, provide greater stability during seismic activity. No belt-jump cases were reported during the Great East Japan earthquake in 2011.
