SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Wikia Inc., the global digital media company, today announced the rebrand of its Wikia.com property as Fandom powered by Wikia. Fandom powered by Wikia is home to the largest entertainment fan site in the world, garnering 190MM global monthly uniques*. The new name signals its evolution from a knowledge-sharing entertainment platform to a powerful media brand that uses the platform as its backbone to be the fan's voice in entertainment. This transition began in January 2016 with the launch of Fandom news and stories in the U.S. Fandom news and stories brings the pulse of entertainment to fans' fingertips through a mix of original and curated content, inclusive of fan-contributed stories.

As the comprehensive entertainment destination, Fandom powered by Wikia, fans can find and share news, commentary, stories, and knowledge on their favorite shows, movies, games and more.

"Entertainment is one of the world's largest and most influential industries, with total worldwide entertainment and media revenues projected to rise to $2.14 trillion dollars in 2020**," said Wikia, Inc. CEO Craig Palmer. "What's so unique to entertainment, however, is the level of engagement, passionate enthusiasm and fan culture that it fosters. Entertainment fans are incredibly devoted to franchises; they build communities around them, closely follow them and share their expertise about them. Fandom powered by Wikia is a perfect reflection of this with our 360,000 communities and 190 million monthly global uniques. We have grown to be an expansive and authentic entertainment destination, and we've only scratched the surface in terms of our offerings as a media brand."

Starting Oct. 4, the Fandom powered by Wikia brand will be integrated across all international websites and the hub website fandom.com (formerly wikia.com). Additionally, many international websites will now feature a new homepage design that best highlights popular communities. These are the first steps in a larger plan that will deliver a more comprehensive and immersive user experience. Next steps include the launch of Fandom news and stories in key international markets.
