Youth Square "Discover Dunhuang" Explores the World-Famous Cultural City

HONG KONG, Aug. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Since April 2016, a variety of "Discover Dunhuang" events has been launched by Youth Square, including exhibitions, cultural sharing sessions, art workshops and the selection of Art and Culture ambassadors. A learning trip took place in July and a photography competition and exhibition of the learning trip will be held in October. Through this wide range of events, it is hoped that the participating youths can have a chance to explore Dunhuang from different perspectives -- art, cultural and conservative -- and understand the importance of ancient Dunhuang in the history of Chinese art and culture.

The "Discover Dunhuang" Art and Culture Ambassadors visited the world-famous Mogao Caves. Recognized as the most well conserved and largest Buddhist caves in the world, they were listed as a world cultural heritage in 1987.

The "Discover Dunhuang" Art and Culture Ambassadors learning trip was led by member of Board of Directors of New World Facility Management Co. Ltd (NWFM), Mr Gary Chen, Head of Judges of the Art and Culture Ambassadors Selection, Mr Raymond Young, JP, and Judge of the Dunhuang learning trip photography competition Mr Yip Ka Po. They were accompanied by Youth Square Executive Director Ms Doris Luey and finished a 6-day field-study in Dunhung with 24 selected youth ambassadors from July 8 to13.

The Dunhuang trip included visiting the world-famous Mogao Caves, Western Thousand Buddha Caves, and the museums in Dunhuang, where the group were allowed to study the art and history of Dunhuang. The group also took part in a half-day sculpture workshop and interacted with local teachers to exchange on clay sculptures, coloring and drawing techniques. A sharing and learning session was also arranged with Mr Peng Jin Zhang from Dunhuang Academy China.  

The youth ambassadors all enjoyed the activities and learned a lot about the world-famous cultural city during the trip. The prize-winning photography works will be chosen to exhibit at Youth Square in October. Public are welcome to visit and learn more about Dunhuang from the youth ambassadors' perspectives.

Itinerary of "Art and Culture Ambassadors" -- Dunhuang Learning Trip 

Day 1:

Hong Kong --> Dunhuang

Day 2:

Yulin Grottoes, Singing Dunes, Crescent Spring, Shazhou Night Market
Visit total 7 caves at Yulin Grottoes

Day 3:

Watch a themed movie called "A Thousand Years of Mogao" and a full dome film called "Fantastic Buddhism Palace"
Visit Mogao Grottoes, Dunhuang Museum and Dunhuang Academy China for sharing and learning

Day 4:

To learn clay sculpture, coloring and drawing art techniques from Mr Du Yong Wei at his sculpture workshop
Campfire dinner

Day 5:

Visit Yangguan Museum, Great Walls ruin of Han Dynasty, Yumen Pass

Day 6:

Dunhuang --> Hong Kong
