The Predator Connect W6 wireless router that Acer recently launched has obtained Wi-Fi 6E certification from TÜV Rheinland along with other international certifications and conformity assessment service, such as FCC, CE, UKCA, and cTUVus. The router is targeted at the international market for leisure and e-sports, where speed is critical.
The new Predator Connect W6 developed by Acer supports the Wi-Fi 6E specification and can operate at up to 7.8Gbps, enabling smooth and crystal-clear 4K/8K ultra-high definition media, gaming, and VR experiences. The router features smart software including Hybrid Quality of Service (QoS) technology for optimization of network speeds and device-specific prioritization of network traffic. The built-in Trend Micro™ Home Security Engine keeps malicious sites and potential attackers at bay. Other user-friendly functions include auto-switching to non-congested channels, allowing users to select their preferred bands, and letting gamers use their computer or mobile phone to calibrate Wi-Fi coverage and signal strength to minimize blind spots.
Wi-Fi 6E is an extension of Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) with tri-band support (2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz). Its ability to support more connections to different types of devices makes it suitable for environments with higher user density such as airports or convention centers. Approval has also been received for Wi-Fi 6E use in the 6 GHz spectrum in 17 countries, including the US, UK, Chile, South Korea, and UAE, as of 2021. However, spectrum approval elsewhere may vary depending on the country.
The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has imposed a number of new mandatory testing requirements for Wi-Fi 6E devices to ensure the effective utilization of the spectrum. TÜV Rheinland assisted Acer with completing the FCC certification process for its Wi-Fi 6E router. As this router product is designed for maximum performance and power, the TÜV Rheinland wireless network communications technology team set up new testing challenges and worked with Acer to overcome issues like CBP (Contention-Based Protocol), implementation of EIRP (Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power) calibration, and Beamforming. Certification for the maximum output permitted by regulation was successfully completed within a very limited amount of time. Additionally, more testing suites were acquired by the TÜV Rheinland IoT Excellence Center to speed up the testing process through simultaneous dynamic frequency testing.
TÜV Rheinland is a Notified Body for the EU RED (Radio Equipment Directive). It is also a TCB (Telecommunication Certification Body) for the US FCC, and a FCB (Foreign Certification Body) for wireless communication products for Canada's ISED.
