HONG KONG, Jan. 24, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- StubHub, the world's leading online ticketing platform, has announced the winner of their annual poll to find the world's most popular K-pop artist.

19,000 fans from 13 countries across Asia, Europe, US and Australia have voted in the poll, which was won by seven-piece boyband BTS with 51% of the votes. Podium is completed with the bands EXO (23% of the votes) and Monsta X (18% of the votes). None of the K-Pop girl-bands like BLACKPINK or TWICE made it to the top of the list. This is the second year in a row BTS reigns in this survey.

Results from the poll can be found on the StubHub website, both in Chinese and English.

The voting period took place from 10th of December 2019 until 10th of January 2020. Apart from the voting results, the site contains a wealth of information about each band and their ticket sales, perfect for K-pop converts and newcomers alike.

The artists nominated in the poll were:

  • Blackpink
  • BTS
  • EXO
  • GFriend
  • H.O.T.
  • Iz*One
  • Mamamoo
  • Monsta X
  • NU'EST
  • Park Hyo Shin
  • Psy
  • Seventeen
  • Super Junior
  • TVXQ
  • Twice
  • X1

2019 was the year that K-pop broke through to reach mainstream worldwide audiences. In 2018, tickets to see BTS were more popular in their home country than anywhere else in the world but now, 79% of all BTS tickets were bought in the US, with the UK, France and Brazil all snapping up tickets at a faster rate than in South Korea.

Data from StubHub UK earlier this year showed that BTS had outsold global artists such as Drake and Ariana Grande in the first half of 2019, and has become one of the top selling musical genre for StubHub globally .
