CHINT, a global leader in smart energy solutions, is playing an essential role to inculcate the importance of energy efficiency and safety to the locals, as the company ramps up cadence in expanding its market share in the country.
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia, Sept. 6, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- In 2022, CHINT and SchneiTec jointly opened Cambodia's first medium voltage power equipment manufacturing factory, spanning 20,000 sqm, in Pursat Province, Cambodia. This joint venture between CHINT Cambodia and SchneiTec formed the partnership of SchneiTec-CHINT Co., Ltd. The USD2.5 million investment has since expanded CHINT's production capacity to support the demand for medium-voltage power equipment not only from Cambodia, but also neighbouring countries like Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar.
CHINT and SchneiTec-CHINT Co., Ltd. have been collaborating closely as the main supplier of 500Wp and 50Wp Solar Home System sets for Electricité du Cambodge (EDC). Another notable project in Cambodia by CHINT is the supply of a 230kV-240MVA transformer to EDC for the Suong substation, a pivotal substation within the country's national grid. EDC is the national electricity company of Cambodia responsible for providing electricity to the country. Since entering the Cambodia market, CHINT has been supporting EDC's strategy to expand access to electricity in rural areas and provide the locals with reliable and safe electricity supply through their projects.
In addition to implementing projects in the country, CHINT Cambodia has also been actively inculcating the importance of energy efficiency and safety to the locals. This includes conducting in-person interaction sessions with the rural communities to enhance their awareness of the ecological advantages of solar energy and provide guidance on its safe application.

CHINT Cambodia has also recently organized a seminar themed "Breaking Boundaries in the Smart Energy Industry" in Phnom Penh, which saw over 150 participants including government and business representatives. This seminar focused on the importance of whole-of-industry collaboration towards safe modernization at speed, without sacrificing safety standards.
Through a panel discussion, the local and APAC teams shared their insights on the latest electrical standards and the importance of supporting local enterprises as it will lead to a ripple effect of advantages. Other than boosting the country's economy, which can also help create jobs, other benefits include quality assurance where customers purchase authentic products from local distributors and retailers instead of imitation goods that impede safety, improving local skilled labour in various fields like technical skills development and sales, as well as faster response and support.
The panel speakers comprised distinguished industry leaders Er. Lim Say Leong, IEC Ambassador (2018 – 2021) and Technical Director of CHINT Global APAC, Mr Khun Chanthea, Deputy Director, Business and Distribution Department at EDC, Dr Nhet Ra, Deputy Section Head of the Technical Office from the Corporate Planning and Project Department at EDC, Jaime Quilala, Manager of the Building Design & Engineering Division at Archetype Cambodia, and Mr. Tann Tourthang, Vice President of SchneiTec Co., Ltd. Archetype shared on electrical design standards, while the EDC shared about its role in opting for good quality and value-for-money solutions, and how it constantly revises local standards to keep up with the pace of modernization.
Liu Bin, Director, CHINT Cambodia said, "There is a strong increase in demand for smart energy products and services in Cambodia due to the country's rapid population growth. In addition to manufacturing equipment that will ensure safe and reliable electricity, CHINT will continually host seminars to collaborate and engage with the local community in raising the bar to promote energy efficiency and standards."
CHINT has been rapidly expanding its business footprint in the APAC region. In 2022, CHINT established offices in Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, with the Singapore office serving as the Asia Pacific Headquarters and co-located with CHINT Asia Pacific Innovation Lab. In June 2023, CHINT officially opened its local office in South Korea which encompasses a CHINT Experience Center that showcases solutions built on next-generation smart energy management solutions. The business expansion plan for the APAC region is aimed at empowering enterprises, governments, and communities to transform their approach in embracing smart energy solutions.
