VISAKHAPATNAM, India, Oct. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Electronics India Pvt. Ltd. supplied two 1MW DelCEN1000 central inverters to India's largest floating solar power project developed by the Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited (GVSCCL). The GVSCCL is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) incorporated in 2016, to implement projects proposed under the Smart City Plan for Vishakhapatnam revolving around the vision to create "A Resilient and Healthy Metropolis for People". Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, inaugurated the 2MW grid-connected floating solar power project which covers an area of around 4.5 acres on the Mudasarlova reservoir.
Work on the clean energy project began in April 2018, in September GVSCCL commissioned it to generate approximately 3,100,000 power units per year. This reduces around 28,000 tons of CO2, equal to saving 131,000 trees, every year. In addition, the project reduces 20% of water evaporation to protect the area's rich flora and fauna. In all, this project costs around 120 million Rupees ($1.71 million) and saves 18,600,000 Rupees in electricity costs per year. In the past five years, advances in solar panel and inverter technology and higher efficiency have helped slash the cost of solar power installations in India by almost 50%.
