Championing Our Theme for Earth Day 2024, Planet vs. Plastics
WASHINGTON, Oct. 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- EARTHDAY.ORG, the global driving force behind Earth Day annually, is excited to launch the Your Art, Our Earth poster competition for Earth Day 2024. With just six months remaining until Earth Day 2024, we extend a warm invitation to the worldwide community to join us in a campaign aimed at shining a spotlight on one of today's most pressing environmental and health challenges: plastics.
Back in 1970, 20 million people came together across the US to march as one, demanding change. It was a collective call to action to protect our planet. Our inaugural poster to mark this truly game-changing event was created by artist Robert Rauschenberg. Since its inception, EARTHDAY.ORG has unveiled an annual official Earth Day poster, seen by and inspiring millions across social media, the world wide web, and posted by individuals across the globe. In 2024, we're extending an invitation to YOU, the public, to contribute to a curated gallery of posters that will encapsulate our theme for the year - Planet vs. Plastics.
This theme unites students aged 5 - 17 and 18+, regardless of their backgrounds, in the pursuit of a plastic-free future by championing a 60% reduction in plastic production by 2040. The competition comprises three unique categories:
Kathleen Rogers, President of EARTHDAY.ORG, emphasized, "We know how incredibly powerful imagery can be in driving home a message and there's never been a more important time to send the message that plastics are endangering us and the planet. Help us with your incredible designs in fighting back through art!"
EARTHDAY.ORG's focus with Planet vs. Plastics is to galvanize communities, advance climate education, and champion sustainable practices, all centered around the pivotal theme of liberating humanity and our planet from plastics' devastating impacts.
A panel of judges, consisting of our esteemed Earth Day Board members, will choose two exceptional artworks to champion the cause of Planet vs. Plastics.
